Juan Tello, currently ranked 20th in the world, is preparing for the season Premier Padel 2025, which will officially begin on February 10. The Argentinian has struggled to regain his winning streak since his split with Federico Chingotto, after seven years together on the track. After a complicated 2024 season on the sporting level, “El Gato” is ready for this new chapter alongside the promising Tino Libaak.
Juan Tello “El Gato”
Born in Córdoba, the Argentinian recently celebrated his 30th birthday on February 1st with a victory at theHexagon Cup, a pre-season tournament with the team AD/vantage Padel. Left-handed player with an imposing physique (1,85 m) and a developed upper body, Tello is known for his offensive game and power, allowing him to punish his opponents with his smashes.
Review of the 2024 season
Associated with the legend Fernando Belasteguín In the first part of the 2024 season, he then teamed up with Inigo Jofre. Despite his talent and past accomplishments with Chingotto, the balance sheet of Tello remains mixed. His best result was a semi-final at the Bordeaux P2, but in major tournaments he has never reached the quarter-finals:
- Qatar Major : 1/8th final
- Italy Major : 1/8th final
- Paris Major : 1/8th final
- Mexico Major : 1/16th final
He also played in five quarter-finals in P1, without ever reaching the last four. His absence from Barcelona Final Master, reserved for the eight best pairs of the season, confirms its difficulties. Over the last few years, Juan Tello displays a balance sheet of 84 games played, 50 wins and 34 losses, or a win rate of close to 60%. In 2024, he backs down to the 20th place worldwide with a winning percentage of 54,5% (24 wins for 20 losses). A notable decline for Tello, which had reached its best ranking at the 7th place worldwide in 2022 and had never gone below the 16th place in the ranking FIP for 2018.
Successive partners
Since his separation from Chingotto in October 2022, Juan Tello chained the partners:
- October 2022 : Association with Paquito Navarro, a bold bet with a repositioning of NAVARRO right, but the pair does not work as agreed.
- March 2023 : New attempt with Alex Ruiz (“Captain America”), a powerful and experienced duo hoping to play the leading roles. Despite a final at Málaga, the results remain below expectations.
- 2024 : Start of the season with Ruiz, before joining Belasteguín in March. He ends the year with jofre.
2025, a new beginning with Tino Libaak
Despite a loss of speed and confidence since his separation from Chingotto, Tello intends to return to the highest level in 2025. His performance at theMadrid Hexagon Cup, where he was associated with Martín Di Nenno for the team AD/vantage Padel, demonstrated that he remains a formidable player. Their victory in the last match gave their team third place, and Tello stood out for his solidity and efficiency on his smashes.
His association with the talented Tino Libaak, MVP of the last World Cup, represents both a gamble and an opportunity to surprise. Their duo recalls the formation of the pair COELLO/TAPIA, both having collaborated with Belasteguín before teaming up. Their first challenge is looming in a few days at Riyadh P1 in Saudi Arabia, where they will be the 15th pair of the tournament. With undeniable talent, Tello et Libaak could well defy the predictions.
