Juani Mieres, Argentinian player, present on the WPT circuit for many years, looks back on his 2019 season, but also on 2020, his partner, his new racket and talks to us more generally about the padel on the professional circuit and “strange” changes.

Padel Magazine : Hello Juani. Before talking about you, could we talk about your new pala and the difference with the pala you used before?

Juani Mieres: Good morning all. I have been playing with this new Dunlop pala, the Galáctica, for several weeks. I feel good with it. It has a new frame which makes it more solid. When you look at it, you immediately see that the surface is made of carbon which gives it resistance but also a lot of control. I find that it adapts very well to my game, a lot of precision with a touch of power when I need it. Thank you Dunlop for this spectacular new pala.

PM: Is this the best Dunlop pala you have ever known?

JM : Yes, clearly. I have played and tested many palas since 2007 at Dunlop and I can say that Galáctica is the best. Resistance, racket output, power, grip and maneuverability, it has it all.

PM: Let's talk about you. A difficult year isn't it?

JM: Yes indeed. I could split the season into two parts. The premiere from January to June was very good for me, playing alongside Ale Galan. We managed to win a title and then finals, semi-finals, in short, good results and a great experience.

Then began the problems with first an injury and then an infection that kept me out of the tracks for a long time. Then getting back to the highest level was not easy. But hey, I'm staying with this very good first semester which allowed me to access the Master Final of Barcelona. So a good start and a good end.

PM: On the Final Master, you shared the track with Agustín Silingo. Was it the first time together?

JM: Yes. It fell like that because of the WPT ranking. We had a week to train together, we tried to do great things on the field. Little by little we felt comfortable, but facing Bela and Tapia, it was really very complicated.

PM: Would it be possible for you to play with Silingo?

JM: Currently I am engaged with another person, Javier Garrido, but given the frequent pair changes that we have seen in recent times, something that personally I find strange, it would not be impossible for this to happen. Players seek to move up the rankings quickly, and if the results do not arrive, they do not hesitate to change. It's like that. So anything is possible.

PM: In January you played an exhibition with Lamperti, your former partner. Why not reconnect?

JM: With Lamperti, we shared many good and bad moments. This year we tried to resume together, but the results did not follow. I think the best for us is to try new adventures, especially with young players, this new adventure we like. And for fun, friendship, good spirit and memories, there are always exhibition matches.

PM: Thank you Juani

JM: Thank you Padel Magazine to be present on important events of the padel global. Thank you also for the work provided. See you soon
