Julien Biron, current 116th French, looks back on his journey to P1500 from Bandol, where, with his teammate Louis Jover, he reached the quarter-finals.

Julien also shares with us his journey, his meeting with Louis, and the progress made alongside his coach Alain Henry.

A look back at the Bandol tournament

The P1500 in Bandol was full of surprises! First of all, getting out of qualifying was already an achievement in itself, plus playing very well. Then, in the first round, we faced two players ranked in the top 50-60 and we managed to win the super Tie-break.

And of course, the match against Ludovic Cancel et Simon Wagner was a nice surprise for us because we have never beaten players of this level before. Two weeks ago, in Besançon, we reached the final of the P1000, but we lost against Jeremy Garcia et Lilian Foure.

His career

I come from tennis, where I was ranked 15/2. Then, at the Mas club in Perpignan, padel courts were set up in place of some tennis courts. With Yoan [Boronad], we started playing quite irregularly. Subsequently, we participated in the French Championships together.

Everything changed when I started training with Alain Henry, Padel Club du Mas. It was a turning point for me. I started to progress quickly. I intensified my training, participated in more tournaments, and that's how my journey in padel took on a new dimension.

His meeting with Louis

It happened during the Bordeaux youth tournament. We met and played against each other. Finally, we said to ourselves why not form a team for the 2023 French championships. In the end, it worked well, becausewe managed to qualify for the world championship.

International tournaments

For the time being, I want to focus on the tournaments in France and achieve good results. Lately it has been working well in P1000 tournaments.

If we continue to play at this level, and compete with pairs ranked around 30th-40th place, then yes, why not try to test ourselves on the international stage.

His progress

At the beginning, with Alain, we worked a lot on defense, because that's really his training pattern. It was an essential basis for me. However, what I lacked was aggression. Over the past year, I started hitting the ball with more force and playing a more aggressive game, which helped my partner on the left side.

Before, I often just returned the ball simply on the field, without trying to put my opponents in difficulty. Today, I continue to work on this aggression to further improve my game.

Louis' point of improvement

He already knows that, but I would like him to be a little more rigorous in important moments and to make the right choices. Although he has improved a lot, there is always room for improvement.

We plan to participate in several P1000s. In August, we each planned P1000s with different partners to prepare for the French youth championships. After that, we will see how to evolve.
