At the end of WinWin's P2000 Padel Cabriès, Julien Seurin spoke frankly about his defeat, his association with Albert Trillas Garcia on the FIP TOUR, his activity as a content creator, his sporting ambitions, but also about his relationship with the circuit, the public and his personal projects.

The Forcin / Tison pair

Tison plays well. But what's hard is when you're not in front of them. I haven't seen them play enough. I've trained a lot with Tison, I know how he plays. But it's not easy to realize that without facing them.

Do you think he plays better than you? — Honestly, I don't know. He has more experience, in a lot of playing conditions. Maybe he's better than me. If it comes out well, maybe I hit better than him, I can be more decisive. Honestly, I don't know. He was ranked 60th in the world, he still does a lot of damage. On the volley, he does a lot of damage. His kick goes over the head, it's annoying to play. From deep, he masks everything. He does a lot of things better than me. But hey, we did a diagnosis last year, I put him 6/1 (laughs). It was at the Rome Major.

A YouTuber's Life

Are you making any money from YouTube? — Financially? A little, if you count all the revenue from advertising and integrations (ads, actually). But it takes up too much of my time. Today, clearly, too much time. I'm aware of that. I want to delegate more of the editing and the rough cuts. Otherwise, I won't last.

But it's progressing well, isn't it? — Yes. Before, all the income went to my editor. Now, when I release a lot of videos, I can be slightly positive. And I reinvest everything so I can delegate more.

You're not putting any money in your pocket? — No. For me, it's a project. If it can help me finance my season, that's great. But I don't make money from YouTube, I reinvest it.

Julien Seurin injured?

Are you injured? — No. But I didn't feel competitive. Mentally, it's tough. I didn't put in the effort I would have put in if I'd been playing with my usual team. You don't touch many balls, and the ones you do, you mess up. It's tough.

You want to be competitive. — Yes. You want to play good matches, against good teams. But even the classification match wasn't good.

Is the partnership with Albert Trillas over?

No, he's very good. I love playing with him. He plays fast, down low, with floating volleys. I can project myself. He has a good smash. And me, today, I can't play with someone who isn't ultra-decisive with a smash. It drives me crazy. I prefer a guy who defends poorly, but who I know won't get broken. With Albert, we only got broken once in Kuala Lumpur. And even then, we gave it away. Then, it was me who played a catastrophic first set in the second tournament. With Thomas too, I think we only got broken in the semi-finals. That comfort is essential.

When I feel we're solid on our service games, I play better defense too. It's a tennis thing. The serve is sacred.

I think we'll continue with Albert Trillas. But Albert is young. He's 19. He's played a lot on the right, and now he's testing out the left. He doesn't want a permanent project for now. I wanted to build something serious with Vanbauce, but he got injured. So, we'll see.

We were supposed to play in Bordeaux, Bandol... But now we can't.

A padel Explorer GP?

With the impact of content creators, a padel Explorer GP would be a dream. Each creator takes a pro player, and we train them. But padel isn't big enough for that yet. And above all, I don't have the time. I'm in Spain, I have to train to stay competitive. From 9 a.m. to 16 p.m., I'm on the court. Then I have to rest. And I have to think about YouTube, intros, montages... it's too much.

My Spanish teammates don't watch the videos much; they're in their own world. Albert doesn't care. He told me: film if you want. I stay discreet, especially abroad. But sometimes my opponents ask me for the video afterward. So it's seen positively.

What is this level in Cabriès worth in FIP?

From the quarterfinals onwards, a small FIP Bronze. Courrin/Seux can clearly win a FIP Bronze. Auradou/Maigret too. A Bronze is a bit far away, not in Europe. Not top level, but good level.

A comeback with Man Vives?

Maybe. We'll call each other. We'll play together again, for sure. We love each other. Those are the best feelings I've ever felt on the pitch. We stopped, but without any animosity. He's back in training. We'll see.

He's aggressive at the net. And today, that's become an essential criterion for me. I want someone who applies pressure.

Sessions in a typical week

When I'm not in a tournament, I play padel every day, for 1 hours. Two or three group sessions max. The rest is individual with a coach and sparring. That's where I progress the most. And 30 or 1 hours of physical preparation, depending on the program. A lot of mobility.

Not physically at my best

I feel average. Lots of little aches and pains. I can't manage to string together full weeks. And even though I'm getting good results, I don't feel strong. I've always played better in matches than in training, but mentally, it's not easy.

Maxime Joris for France

He hits well. He's not one of the biggest hitters, but he hits well. And he's a favorite. I hadn't thought about it, I thought he only wanted to play right-handed. But he's the one who suggested it to me.

And Thomas Vanbauce logically chose to play with Johan Bergeron.

Continue to enjoy

I don't want to fall back into what I experienced in tennis, where I no longer enjoyed myself.

Seurin's predictions

  • Can Courrin/Seux beat Auradou/Maigret?

Yes. In three sets. They started well, lost the second, then regained the upper hand physically.

It's not impossible for Courrin/Seux to win. If it goes well, if they're aggressive, they can do something.

  • And Coulombeau/Garcia?

They might get busted open. Jeremy Garcia is a pain to play, but that might not be enough.

  • And the girls ?

A possible great final? — Ligi/Bahurel versus Soubrié/Loi, that would be balanced. The most balanced of the tournament.
