Belgium has, by far, been the unluckiest country in these 2024 European Championships , from the draws. Both men and women found themselves in a “death hen“, depriving them of qualification for the quarter-finals.
Before the start of the competition, Clement Geens , sports director of Padel Wallonia Brussels, professional player and selected for Cagliari, told us about the ambitions of the Belgians : reach 5th place , both in men and women. Yes, but here we are, Belgium played in the two most complicated groups… and was third in both cases.
The ladies against France and Portugal…
It all starts with the ladies falling on the France , Portugal and Poland . Even if Belgium greatly annoyed France (by winning the first match), as well as Portugal with several matches in three sets, the country was not able to get second place in the ranking, synonymous with qualification for the quarter-finals. .
However, Belgium subsequently had no difficulty accessing the 9th place of these European Championships, it shows all the potential of this women's team...

Portugal and Sweden for men
The men had no better luck since, in the group, they played Portugal, Sweden and Denmark. Once again against Portugal, the outsiders of the competition, the Belgians lost… and against the Swedes, it didn't work much better.
Once again, it is 9th place in the ranking that we find the Belgians who had no trouble during the classification matches.

It was her brother who one day told her to accompany him to a padel court, since then, Gwenaëlle has never left the court. Except when it comes to going to watch the retransmission of Padel Magazine, World Padel Tour… or Premier Padel…or the French Championships. In short, she is a fan of this sport.
