The health crisis has redrawn the contours of sports practice. A sport that respects social distancing and can be practiced outdoors, padel has experienced significant growth over the last ten months. The departments of the Channel and Finistère are no exception.

La Manche has new followers

Granville and its surroundings should be equipped with brand new courts. With indoor tennis courts closed to adult players, padel has seen a renewed interest to compensate for the lack. This is particularly the case in Saint-Pair-sur-Mer. Members of the local club referred to the outdoor practice and certainly do not regret this choice: “It's very fun, simpler than tennis, less tiring too, explains Sophie About in the columns of the local daily The Free Channel. We have a good time in mixed doubles even if we have to cover ourselves well with the cold at the moment ”.

New land in Brittany

In Finistère, between Lorient and Concarneau, Quimperlé is also taken by the padel frenzy. As of December 2018, a restructuring project for the Kerbertrand tennis complex had been voted. “The restructuring of the complex has become an investment priority in order to adapt this equipment to high-level practice and to an activity in continuous growth with the establishment of the sports studies sector”, Mayor Michaël Quernez declared.

A decision passed unanimously therefore feeds important local issues. Designed by an agency in Quimper, this remodeling involves the demolition of covered courses to develop indoor tennis courts and padel as well as stands. This great innovation has a cost: 1,98M € excluding taxes and options.

Brittany offers an attractive range of padel games, such as in Côtes d'Armor, Lannion, and in Ille-et-Vilaine, at Rennes and Chateaubriand.
