Even before the start of the Reserve Cup Marbella The show was already underway. As is tradition for the event conceived by American businessman Wayne Boich, a prestigious Pro Amateur was held on Wednesday at Nueva Alcantara Club of Marbella bringing together professional players and renowned entrepreneurs.
Several prominent figures from the circuit were present on the Andalusian tracks, including Juan Martín Díaz, Javi Garrido, Javi Leal, Teo Zapata, Fran Guerrero and Gonza Alfonso Facing them were passionate amateurs, but also leading business executives, such as Mike Simkins, Adam Fisher, Keith Menin, Chet Gupta, Josh Keller or Felipe MacLean .
But the stakes went far beyond the simple pleasure of sharing the court with padel stars. At stake: a check for $50,000 (about 43 400 euros ) for the winning pair.
And finally Gonza Alfonso , currently the 29th ranked player in the world, and the Bolivian entrepreneur Felipe MacLean who won the trophy after their victory in the final against Jaime Fermosell and Josh Keller .
An impressive reward when you consider that it's close to the prize money offered to the winners of a Major Premier Padel , where each champion player takes home 47,250 euros. The finalists were not forgotten, however, leaving with prize money of 22 000 dollars .
This first victory is the perfect start to what promises to be a particularly lively week in Marbella. This second edition of the Reserve Cup will notably be marked by the entry of women's padel into the competition and by one of the most anticipated matches of the weekend: the unprecedented association between Alejandro Galán and Leo Augsburger who will face Arturo Coello and Coki Nieto Saturday evening.
I discovered padel directly during a tournament, and frankly, I didn't really like it at first. But the second time, it was love at first sight, and since then, I haven't missed a single match. I'm even ready to stay up until 3am to watch a final of Premier Padel !
