At the end of the current period of confinement, and as soon as sports activities can resume, the departmental championship of Padel of the Eastern Pyrenees will be launched in the main clubs in our region and will run for six months. It is the Departmental Tennis Committee which initiated the organization of this interclub competition, the aim of which is to bring together the players of Padel of the various sports entities of the 66.

The Departmental Tennis Committee, headquartered at Grand Stade les Capelans in St Cyprien, aims to promote and develop the two main sports specialties of the French Tennis Federation, namely Tennis and Padel.

It should be noted that the practice of Padel has developed a lot in recent years in the POs since there are now 41 sites in the department, the largest number of facilities in the Occitanie region.

In October 2020 courts of Padel are present in 16 clubs in the department. Seven sites are located in the agglomeration of Perpignan and nine clubs are located in the municipalities of Argelès, Banyuls, Canet, Espira, Ille sur Têt, Le Boulou, Rivesaltes, Saleilles and St Cyprien.

As proof of the dynamism exerted by all these sports clubs, the Departmental Committee approved during the last season no less than 32 tournaments of Padel, including 9 of category P100, 5 of category P250, and 18 of category P500, despite an interruption of several months following the spring confinement.

In addition, still at the initiative of the committee, a departmental championship of Padel saw the light of day in September 2019 and took place throughout the last sporting season with the participation of more than 35 teams from several divisions. This brand new interclub event has seen more than 160 competitors play in home and away matches.

The final stages of this championship have just concluded and have honored the following clubs:

  • Mixed Division: Le Central winner Padel, Finalist TC Saleilles
  • Division 3 Gentlemen: Winner Le Parc Ducup, Finalist TC Saleilles
  • Division 2 Gentlemen: Winner Le Five, Finalist: Le Central Padel
  • Division 1 Gentlemen: Winner Le Mas, Finalist: Le Five
