French padel loses its leader. Thomas Leygue, French number 1 and key member of the French team, announced this Thursday that he is ending his 2025 season after suffering a near-total rupture of the Achilles tendon when first round of the Italy Major Premier Padel in Rome.

Opposed to the Deus brothers with his partner Bastien Blanqué, the Tricolore collapsed in the middle of the match, feeling "like a hammer blow to the lower calf," in his own words. Unable to put his foot down, he was forced to give up immediately.

Medical examinations carried out the following day confirmed the seriousness of the injury: Achilles tendon ruptureThe operation is inevitable, and with it any prospect of returning to competition before 2026 recedes.

"It's a very difficult moment, because I think I was playing my best padel... but sport is sometimes cruel," he shared with emotion.

A 2025 season abruptly interrupted

This setback puts an end to the Frenchman's ambitions for the major events of the year. Thomas Leygue must withdraw from the international matches with the French team, and in particular to World Championships 2025, planned for the end of the year.

Another major consequence: he will not be able to defend his title of champion of France alongside Bastien Blanqué. The duo, crowned champions in 2023 and 2024, were expected to aim for a third consecutive title. This will not be the case.

See you in 2026

Despite this terrible news, the Frenchman remains hopeful and ambitious:

“2025 started well, but one thing is certain: I will come back stronger, and 2026 will be better.”

He also thanked everyone who sent him messages of support. The player will provide an update after his surgery, which will mark the beginning of a long period of rehabilitation.
