Le Greenweez Paris Major Was it the slowest tournament of the year? Indeed, the weather conditions were not optimal for this third Major. Rain, humidity, cold… both players and spectators suffered the laws of the Parisian weather, at the end of September, beginning of October.
Obviously, these conditions had a direct impact on the track… and on the game! For both men and women, the points lasted. Indeed, the colder it is, the less the ball will come out of the glass. Consequently, unless you call yourself Agustin Tapia, Juan lebron or Ale Galan, the x3s were complicated.
Among the women, few players managed to get the ball out, even the most powerful ones, like Gemma Triay et Paula Josemaria.
To prove that this Major was indeed the slowest of the year, Padel Intelligence has analyzed all tournaments Premier Padel of the year to find out where the points lasted the longest… and where they lasted the shortest. Unsurprisingly, the Greenweez Paris Major finds itself in first position.
More than 9 moves played during the point
Only two tournaments exceed the ratio of nine shots played during the point: the Asunción P2 and the Greenweez Paris Major. In Paraguay, on average, there were 9.1 Exchanges during the point. So far, this was the tournament where the track was the slowest.
However, this P2 has just been surpassed by the Greenweez Paris Major where, on average, there was 9.3 shots played during a point.
The fact is that, with the weather conditions mentioned above, the game in Paris was slower. The pairs had to work on their exchanges, offering another style of padel. Far from the spectacular game, with overpowering smashes, the GPM 2024 was much more strategic, with points worked to obtain THE ball to smash.
Puerto Cabello, the tournament with the fewest exchanges
The Puerto Cabello P2 in Venezuela had sparked heated controversy at the beginning of the year, making players raise their voices. There had been a heated controversy over arbitration… but also in terms of organization. Indeed, the tournament had experienced a wave of abandonment, linked to food poisoning among the players. Some teams, like Triay / Fernandez, had reached the semi-finals… without playing a full match.
Of course, fewer games played means fewer points played. The playing conditions, although special (on the ocean's edge), did not change anything since, on average, 6.6 shots were played during a point.
Greenweez Paris Major, a tournament like no other?
Inevitably, the question arises: is the Greenweez Paris Major a special tournament? The answer is probably “Yes“. In addition to being one of the Major, which is therefore played outside, the GPM 2024 has also imposed playing conditions to which players are not accustomed.
The Greenweez Paris Major was a perfect training session to perfect the tactics of the pairs and also demonstrated that padel could, at times, be a slower and more worked sport!
It was her brother who one day told her to accompany him to a padel court, since then, Gwenaëlle has never left the court. Except when it comes to going to watch the retransmission of Padel Magazine, World Padel Tour… or Premier Padel…or the French Championships. In short, she is a fan of this sport.
