Le padel is it an easy or a complicated sport? We compare often the padel with tennis. But are we really right? Are they really comparable sports?
We will try to give you some leads
The key to padel : the simplicity ?
How many times have we heard that the padel is an easy, accessible and particularly fun sport. Not a single player, not a single club will tell you otherwise.
In the media, these words go round and round. However, some actors of the padel French people feel that we are doing a little too much about it. And that it can even harm the game, but also the health of new players.
This is the case of Cédric Carité, who without saying the contrary, thinks that the padel is "a false friend".
The founder of Padel Tennis Academy, Cédric Cartité explains the gist of his thoughts:
Learning the padel should not be underestimated. We can make the mistake of believing that we know how to play padel, as soon as we have the racket in hand.
It is true that in a few minutes you can feel sensations. Instead of persevering and trying to go a little further, we can finally be satisfied with the sensations of his beginnings.
In my opinion, it's a bit of a shame, because we deprive ourselves of so much. Especially since padel, we can precisely pass headings relatively quickly if we are well accompanied.
We invite you to read the beautiful article of the Hors Série We Love Tennis Mag devoted to Padel last December.
Tactics at padel is also a very important notion, “often forgotten by players who embark on the padel. And it's quite a shame, because they deprive themselves of this pleasure”Comments the professor of padel, Jerome Inzerillo.
Lessons to avoid injury?
It is true that at padel, we can have the illusion of simplicity. However, it is a game which brings together a lot of technical and strategic notions. This sport is practiced in addition to 2 and it is perhaps one of the team sports the most individualistic there is.
If your game and your sensations satisfy you, so much the better! But what might tip the scales and force you to take a few lessons is the health part.
Indeed, the padel is a sport that can hurt mainly elbows and wrists. These are the ailments that recur most often in this sport. However, if you have a deficient technique, it can cause or increase pain.
Jerome Inzerillo, the manager padel du Pyramids Club warns:
I'm sorry to see that padel, we sometimes see very atypical techniques. They can be fun and maybe even relatively effective with your friends, but for how long?
We see movements, sometimes the opposite of what to do or even gestures that sometimes come from other sports that we are trying to readapt to padel.
In my opinion, the hardest part is taking snowshoes and using your wrist that put a lot of strain on your body.
Assessment: I observe injuries that could have been avoided.
Just for that, making a small technical point is important and will certainly allow you to avoid certain injuries.
The success of padel : Accessibility?
Arnaud Saurois, Associate lecturer in Sports Management and Coordinator of the French Sport Observatory does not always agree:
Not at all agree with this statement about training: “one of the pitfalls of padel lies in its ease of access which suggests the pointlessness of lessons. This is a mistake, because the padel is riddled with hidden traps ”
This is precisely part of the success of the padel facing tennis: The difficulties in learning tennis are not the same as padel.
In tennis it takes months and even years to have fun. The beginnings are often complicated. And unless you've learned relatively early, learning is even more complicated as an adult. It's not Laura Manin who will say the opposite!
The tennis player and padel in leisure in the south of France, gives us his opinion:
Tennis I hang on. It's a fun sport, but I am not sure in advance that I will play a good part, because the level is very fluctuating for me. While at padel, even though I've only been playing for a year, I mostly have good games with friends.
However, she adds a very interesting reflection:
Maybe I made the mistake of sticking to the simple side of the sport. I think I am stagnating today in my very small level. And above all, my grip is perhaps not the most effective in order to last over time and take advantage of my friends on the ground.
I fully intend to go for an internship in my club or a few lessons before it's too late.
Communication: The most difficult to acquire?
This is quite paradoxical, since on the one hand Laure explains to us that in the padel some “exceptional moments of exchange ”. And at the same time, according to her, “it's very difficult to find the right chemistry in the field with your partner, the right positioning, the right words".
We invite you to read the post of Max Moreau, one of the best French players in padel, on thecommunication.
