Padel continues its development in Martinique with a marked increase in the number of facilities and players. Through the first edition of “News Padel “Mother” of the Martinique league (in collaboration with Padel Expansion), a current update is provided on the evolution of the discipline, upcoming events and the challenges of its local development.
Rapid but still limited development
The establishment of padel in Martinique really began in 2020, with the installation of the first tracks within theArena and League. Today, in 2025, the territory counts 17 slopes accessible by reservation, and an expansion project is underway. However, the cost of a ground cover is around 250 euros, which limits the development of indoor courts on the island.
The number of padel licensees amounts to 350, although many players only have one multi-racket license and are not counted. The number of practitioners reaches approximately 950 people, while local competitions continue to be structured with 16 tournaments organized this season (2023/2024), and more 40 are planned for 2024/2025 (excluding P25).
Martinique faces the boom of padel in France
There are more than 2 tracks et 80 ranked players. This dynamic encourages local players to further structure padel in Martinique, particularly through the Martinique Tennis League.
Infrastructure and education booming
To learn and progress in padel, several clubs now have graduate professors with the padel qualification:
- Arena Sport Center
- Schoelcher Country Club
- TC3 Islets
- TC Trinity
- Martinique Tennis League
La Martinique Tennis League, affiliated with the French Tennis Federation (FFT), plays a key role in the approval of tournaments, the training of teachers and the organization of regional competitions.
Jean-François Murgier, figure of the month
This month, the spotlight is on Jean-François Murgier, a major player in the development of padel in Martinique. With more than 30 years of experience in tennis, he turned to teaching padel after running a padel club 1 licensees in the Lyon region. Based in Martinique since the end of the 2000s, he is State tennis graduate (2nd degree) and holds the padel qualification (DFMP), while exercising trainer functions.
Competitions and calendar for the month of March
Several tournaments will be held in Martinique in March, including P250 and P100, among which :
- March 7 : P250 Mixed – Country Club
- March 15 : P250 Ladies – TC 3 Islets
- March 22 : Championship +45 years – League
- March 29 : P250 Mixed – TC La Plaine
In addition, competitions will also be organized at Saint-Martin, highlighting the growing enthusiasm for the discipline in the Antilles.

Finally, a significant fact should be noted: the launch of the P50 in May 2025, sign of a new step in the organization of tournaments in Martinique.
Padel thus continues its anchoring on the island, with a constant progression of facilities, competitions and number of practitioners, announcing a promising future for this sport on the rise.
