This is last april that I had the pleasure of discovering the padel club of theAS Dragon in Pirae, in French PolynesiaThis dynamic club, which already has eight sports sections, recently added a string to its bow with the opening of its padel section, placed under the responsibility of Raimana Ho, whom I had the opportunity to interview.
A booming discipline
The first two tracks padel have been inaugurated in December 2024, marking a new stage for sport in Tahiti. From the outset, those responsible made the choice to voluntarily limit the number of members to 200, in order to ensure regular and equitable access to facilities.
The reservations are done by one-hour slots, a format chosen to allow as many players as possible to enjoy the courts. Particular attention has been paid to welcoming beginners, often novices in racket sports.
Strong demand for teaching
Faced with the craze, two coaches were recruited to meet a strong demand in private lessons and group trainingThe club also organizes regular tournaments, the first of which, in last february, gathered no less than 180 participants. A success that says a lot about thelocal enthusiasm for this discipline which is still recent in Tahiti.
New land planned
Building on this momentum, Raimana Ho and the AS Dragon team are already thinking about the future. Three new grounds are in the planning stages, with the aim of cover them, to allow the practice of padel whatever the weather conditions and a necessary investment to accompany the rapid development of sport in this region of the globe.
