Padel is now even making its way into the presidential campaign of   Real Madrid Candidate for the presidency of the Madrid club,  Enrique Riquelme  unveiled this week a particularly ambitious project around the future “Ciudad del Socio”, a huge sports and social complex planned for the Valdebebas area.

And at the heart of this project, padel occupies a very important place.

With several dozen courts planned, Real Madrid could eventually become one of the world's largest centers dedicated to racket sports.

A gigantic project around Valdebebas

Presented as part of the application called  “Legado y Futuro” Enrique Riquelme's project aims to profoundly transform Real Madrid's current infrastructure at Valdebebas.

The stated objective is clear: to create “the world’s largest social and sporting campus” for the members and families of the Madrid club.

Among the many planned facilities: green spaces, leisure areas, sports infrastructure, there is a huge area dedicated to padel and tennis.

According to the initial information revealed by  Brand the complex would represent nearly  15 450 m²  dedicated to racket sports.

Padel at the heart of the project

Although all the details have not yet been officially confirmed, the future complex could accommodate up to  41 padel and tennis courts .

A colossal figure that would immediately place Real Madrid among the world's largest centers in the sector.

To date, several clubs are already considered international benchmarks in terms of the number of pitches:

  •  El Estudiante Club  in Alcobendas (Madrid) with 40 tracks
  •  Padel House  in Finland with 33 tracks
  •  Sportcity Valencia  with 30 tracks
  •  PDL Center Frihamnen  in Stockholm and  Ultra Padel Club  in Miami with 28 tracks

The Madrid project would therefore directly compete with these XXL infrastructures already well established in the global padel landscape.

A new tool for sports tourism?

Beyond the purely sporting aspect, this future “Ciudad del Socio” could also become a real tool for attracting the Madrid club.

Padel is now generating increasingly important sports tourism, particularly in Spain where large complexes attract amateur players, international training courses and private events throughout the year.

Even though several areas remain unclear, particularly regarding access reserved for members or not, the project mainly shows how much padel continues to gain weight in the strategies of major sporting institutions.
