After an intense season, Léa Godallier, four-time French champion, looks back on her year 2024. Between her return to competition after the birth of her child, encouraging performances with Giorgia Marchetti and a new national medal, the French player draws up a sincere and ambitious assessment. Objectives, highlights and preparation for 2025: discover Léa Godallier's confidences.
A year 2024 full of emotions, what conclusions do you draw from it?
The balance sheet is positive in the sense that the results obtained after the birth of Manoa have exceeded our expectations, both for me and for my team with Giorgia Marchetti (ITA). The objective was to limit the damage in terms of ranking, because I was defending a lot of points compared to my 2023 results. Even with my protected ranking, it was difficult to gain points every week. After my injury In the French championships, there was a more complicated period where we mainly won the matches that we had to win, without managing to raise our level of play in the next round. Fortunately, the fun and alchemy of the team returned to the last tournaments.
The best moments of this season?
Rome, for our first tournament together with Giorgia, where we reached the 8th finals by beating a seeded player, and the French championships, won for the fourth consecutive year with Alix Collombon, in pain but with family!
Europe and the World Cup with the French team, what is your assessment of these championships?
The european championships were good. They could have been very good if we had beaten Italy for the silver medal, but unfortunately we lost on the deciding point. The Mondial will have been more complicated: we are finishing 7th behind the Holland, which we beat in the group stage. It's a result disappointing in view of the European Championship that we had experienced, but it motivates us even more for the next competition wearing the jersey of the blue.
You did a full season with the same partner, the Italian Giorgia Marchetti, is that a change from previous years?
As for changing partners, it was only last year that it was really complicated. In previous years, I played almost the entire year with the same partner (Laura Clergue (FRA), Teresa Navarro (ESP) and Ariadna Cañellas (ESP)). It feels good to find a strong relationship, both on and off the field. It really is important for me to get along with my partner. Our career requires us to spend weeks away from home, during which we spend 24h / 24 with the same person.
What are your goals for 2025?
To 2025, the goal will be to find a ranking between the 30ème and 40th place worldwide, to beat seeded teams, to go as far as possible in the main tables and finally conquer a fifth title of French champion!
What are you going to do during the holidays?
I have one week left on Toulouse during which I will train normally. Then we go as a family 3 weeks in Tahiti. The 1st week will be a complete break, the 2th week will mark a recovery of the physical, and the 3th week will be devoted to a resumption of the paddle with a physical dominance. Then return to France to follow the pre-season.
One last word ?
Māuruuru / Thanks to all my partners and supporters who supported me throughout the year, a season full of emotions, but the best is yet to come !
