Alejandro Galán and Federico Chingotto played this Saturday the semi-finals of the Buenos Aires Premier Padel P1, on the center court of the Park Roca. Opposed to Paquito Navarro and Lucas Bergamini, the world number 2 had started the match well, by pocketing the first setBut the rest turned into a nightmare for the Madrid player.
From the start of second set, Ale Galán showed visible signs of weakness: reduced movement, measured effort, resigned attitude. Despite everything, he and Chingotto tried to hang on, but the set slipped away from them. At the start of the third roundor a 1-0 against them, they were forced to throw in the towel.
On social media, Galán shared his frustration and bitterness.
His coach Jorge Martínez quickly wanted to reassure fans about the condition of his player:
“Ale suffered from a significant gastric problem, which prevented him from moving and playing normally. He dehydrated, he no longer had the physical means to continue fighting on the field.”
Martinez insisted that the decision to abandon was taken for preserve health of his player:
“We tried until the end, but there came a time when we had to face the facts. We couldn't continue playing in these conditions.”
This defeat on abandon offered to Paquito and Bergamini their first final together on the circuit Premier PadelFor Galán, this mishap is a setback in a season that has been very consistent so far. Now it remains to be hoped that he recovers quickly, as the Rome Major in two weeks.
