Le World Padel Tour is back to the wall from the press release by Ale Galan, which is supposed to represent the position of all players. To counter the potential drain of talent on the new FIP/QSI circuit -whose name we do not yet know-, the WPT uses its legal arguments.

Written by the lawyers of World Padel Tour, this “informative letter to players” actually seems the sole remedy than the Set Point Events circuit to retain players, threatening them with very heavy economic sanctions.

In the communicated, a rather special close attracts attention. If top 20 players are required to play only WPT tournaments, players beyond that ranking position would be “free to participate in any circuit”. It is further specified that this tournament should not take place  “during the 7 days before and the 7 days after a WPT competition”.

Knowing that today the WPT tournaments are played every two weeks, so it seems more or less impossible for a player to participate in a competition on another circuit. So why include this close? We can think that it was written at a time when the players were perhaps afraid that the circuit did not offer them enough tournaments...

If the WPT has done great things for the development of the padel professional, the circuit seems to be at a standstill today with the players. His last proposal was rejected by the association of players who seem very attracted by other circuit projects, including of course that of the FIP and QSI.

Will the potential claim for damages ranging from €300 to €000 for each player be enough to hold them back for two years? It is quite possible, on the other hand in such conditions, we say to ourselves that it will be complicated to keep after 500…
