Having decisively defeated Julien Seurin and Albert Trillas Garcia in the opening match of the FIP Silver main draw in Bandol, Timéo Fonteny and Yoan Boronad showed themselves to be tactically and mentally solid. They are back for Padel Magazine on this successful entry into the competition.

Padel Magazine Timéo, you already beat Julien Seurin here last year. It was your second victory against him in Bandol. How do you feel after this match?

Timeo Fonteny : We knew it wouldn't be an easy match from the start, because I had already faced him last year in similar conditions. He hits very well, so it's never easy. Luckily for us, he didn't hit so well today. We were able to lob well, and that's one of our strengths: our lob quality worked well. In the third set, we raised our level again, and that made the difference.

Padel Magazine Yoan, you played a very good first set. You were the one who was on top in the stats. What tactics did you use with Yannick Morel on the bench?

Yoan Boronad : We knew that the two players on our side were hitting hard, and that was their strong point. Julien in particular is very dangerous on tight or high lobs. So we decided to test him early on with a few very high lobs. He wooded two of them, which I think undermined his confidence. Afterwards, he tried to hit less and I was able to counter him. That really changed the dynamic of the match. Then Albert came up, but he wasn't hitting as well. He was pushing more than he was hitting, which allowed me to cut off certain trajectories. So we were able to gain the upper hand strategically.

Yoan Boronad : With the wind, we also said to ourselves that we would play very high when we had it behind us. They had more difficulty hitting high lobs. And on tight lobs, Albert couldn't get them out the way he wanted. It was fast, but he lacked precision.

Padel Magazine : There was also a bit of tension at one point, particularly over a contentious point?

Yoan Boronad : Yes, a bit of a tense moment... but in the end, everyone had a point of contention on their side, so let's say it evened out. One all, ball in the center.

Padel Magazine : You recently added Benjamin Tison to your staff. What does that mean for you?

Timeo Fonteny : It brings a fresh perspective. We have Yann at the beginning of the week and Ben at the end of the week. Benjamin gives us a lot of experience from his time on the international circuit. It's a real plus.

Padel Magazine : You might face Pablo Lijó and Juan Cruz Belluati in the next round. And for the rest of the season, will you be in Narbonne?

Timeo Fonteny : Normally, we will be at the FIP Silver in Narbonne, barring injury or setbacks.
