La Professional Padel Association (PPA) does not mince its words. In its official press release, the association of professional players denounces a serious conflict of interest within the world of padel. Without citing him directly, she clearly points the finger Luigi Carraro, President of the International Federation of Padel (FIP), who also holds a position within Premier Padel, a circuit supposed to be regulated by this same federation.
A problematic dual role
In its press release, the PPA highlights a situation that it considers unacceptable:
“It is clear that there is a conflict of interest between the regulatory body (FIP) and the commercial interests of Premier Padel. Players expect the FIP to act impartially and objectively, but this expectation is called into question when its top executives also hold executive positions within the Premier Padel, and that the FIP is a major shareholder of Premier Padel. "
Ce dual role places Luigi Carraro in a delicate position. Officially, the FIP is supposed to guarantee regulation neutral and impartial professional padel, but its president also sits on Premier Padel. A situation that raises questions about real independence of the FIP and its ability to make objective decisions for the future of the sport.
Padel Magazine had already raised the question
From 2022, Padel Magazine had obtained documents confirming that Luigi Carraro was both president of the FIP and on the board of directors of Premier Padel. This information had raised many questions about his sudden change of alignment, going from support to World Padel Tour to full support Premier Padel.
Players close to the PPA confirm that this turnaround would be directly linked to his involvement in Premier Padel, explaining why the FIP would have taken systematic decisions favorable to this circuit.
And besides, the president of the A1 Padel, Fabrice Pastor, does not hesitate to qualify Luigi Carraro's behavior.
Luigi Carraro had not responded to requests from Padel Magazine on this matter. The opacity surrounding this controversial governance fuels tensions in an increasingly divided professional padel.
