Le Premier Padel P2 in Gijón, the first tournament of this category in the history of the circuit to take place in the Spanish city, takes place in a particular context, marked by the revolt of the players and the boycott of the top 150 in the men's category. However, an unexpected support has brought a little light to this competition: that of Luis Enrique, current coach of Paris Saint-Germain.
Native of Gijón, the host city of the event, the former coach of Spain wanted to send a message to the participants and spectators of the tournament:
“Hello, I am Luis Enrique, and as I know that the Premier Padel is taking place in the best city in the world, which is Gijón, I would like to first congratulate all the players. I hope they enjoy the tournament, but also the city, its gastronomy and everything that the people of my region represent. I also invite all the people of Gijón to come and enjoy this great padel tournament.”
Despite a delicate context for this first edition, the organizers hope that the presence of the public and the local enthusiasm will compensate for the absence of many headliners of the circuit. One thing is certain: for Luis Enrique, Gijón remains a must-see city, whether for sport or for its cultural heritage.
