This Wednesday morning in Madrid,  Léa Godallier  et  Esther Butcher  failed to create a surprise against the 8th seed,  Alejandra Salazar  et  Martina Calvo Beaten 6/3 6/2, the Frenchwoman and the Spaniard left the tournament in the first round of the main draw.

A promising start, but…

The start of the match suggested some positive things. Godallier was able to maneuver Salazar diagonally, surprising her several times in crosscourt. For his part, Carnicero showed off his powerful smash. But at 3/3 in the first set, Salazar and Calvo raised the bar. More volume, longer rallies, and constant pressure finally broke the Franco-Spanish pair. The result: two consecutive breaks and a first set won 6/3.

Seven consecutive games for Salazar / Calvo

The momentum continued into the second set. The favorites reeled off seven straight games to lead 4-0. Godallier and Carnicero tried to respond with a break, but they were unable to reverse the trend. Overly solid, Salazar and Calvo finished 6-2, converting 6 of their 11 break points and finishing with 30 winners (compared to 20 for their opponents).

Positive things to remember before Paris

While the defeat is understandable, Godallier and Carnicero still leave with some certainties. Their complementarity works, and they have already shown great complicity in their first partnership. The next phase promises to be interesting: next week, they will be  directly integrated into the final table of the Paris Major , as pair number 29.

I discovered padel directly during a tournament, and frankly, I didn't really like it at first. But the second time, it was love at first sight, and since then, I haven't missed a single match. I'm even ready to stay up until 3am to watch a final of Premier Padel !
