A few days before the start of the  Premier Padel Madrid P1 , the entry lists reveal an interesting snapshot of world padel. Between the Spanish dominance, the strong Argentine presence, and the breakthrough of other nations, the tournament perfectly reflects the current geopolitics of this rapidly expanding sport.

Men's main draw: Spain and Argentina in force

In the  main draw (main draw) men , Spain and Argentina share the vast majority of places. We find the big names:

  •  Arturo Coello (ESP) / Agustín Tapia (ARG) , the world's No. 1 pair.
  •  Federico Chingotto (ARG) / Alejandro Galán (ESP) , duet n°2.
  •  Franco Stupaczuk (ARG) / Juan Lebrón (ESP) , another headliner.

Of the 32 pairs directly entered,  almost 70% of players are Spanish  et  25% Argentinian . Only a few foreigners break through: the Brazilian  Lucas Bergamini , Portuguese  Miguel Deus , the Chilean  Javier Valdés , or even the Italian (of Argentinian origin…)  Facundo Domínguez .

Male qualifications: growing diversity

In previas, Spain remains the majority but the diversity is more marked:

  •  Italie  (Graziotti, Cassetta, Abbate…),
  •  France  with  Johan Bergeron / Bastien Blanqué  which has  Dylan Guichard ,
  •  Sweden  (Vasquez, Axelsson, Olsson),
  •  Belgium  (Clement Geens),
  •  Great Britain  (Christian Medina Murphy),
  • and even representatives of the  United Arab Emirates  (which can also be debated…).

In total,  around ten nationalities  are present in these qualifications, confirming that padel is gradually becoming international. Even if the road still seems long.

Waiting list gentlemen: worldwide opening

The waiting list confirms the trend:

  • some  French  (Philemon Raichman, Julien Seurin, Manuel Vives, Yoan Boronad, Timéo Fonteny, Nicolas Rouanet),
  • some  Paraguayans  (Mariano González, Martin Abud),
  • some  néerlandais ,
  • un  Mexican ,
  • un  Finnish  and even a  estonien .

Women's Main Draw: Hispanic Domination

Among women, Spanish domination is even more marked:  almost 75% of the players involved are Spanish .

The world's best will be there:

  •  Ariana Sánchez / Paula Josemaría  (ESP),
  •  Gemma Triay (ESP) / Delfi Brea (ARG) ,
  •  Claudia Fernández / Bea González  (ESP),
  • or even the pair  Andrea Ustero (ESP) / Sofia Araújo (POR) .

We also find the French woman  Alix Collombon  associated with the Spanish  Araceli Martínez , as well as the Russian  Ksenia Sharifova  and the Italian  Carolina orsi .

Women's qualifications: European opening

Female previas show greater diversity, with:

  • some  French  (Léa Godallier, Carla Touly),
  • some  Italian  (Giorgia Marchetti, Carlotta Casali),
  • another  Swedish  (Carolina Navarro Björk),
  • another  British  (Aimee Gibson),
  • another  Portugese  (Catarina Santos).

Ladies' waiting list: French and global presence

There are several nationalities on the waiting list:

  • the French  Laura Buteau ,
  • Italians (Rosi, Parmigiani),
  • a German woman ( Victoria Kurz ),
  • a Dutch woman ( Maaike Betz ),
  • an American ( Brittany Dubins ),
  • a Swiss woman ( Karin Hechenberger ),
  • as well as Spanish women…

Madrid P1 confirms that padel remains dominated by Spain – Argentina axis , but that the  France, Italy, Sweden, Portugal and other European nations  slightly gaining some ground...

Waiting lists also show the emergence of  new nationalities  (Germany, United States, Switzerland, Finland, Estonia, Paraguay, Mexico, etc.), a sign that padel is attracting more and more people.
