Today Padel Magazine decided to take an interest in the anecdotes of Martin Echegaray Vales.

For those who don't know him yet, Martin is a former player of padel who shone in the 90s, before later becoming a renowned trainer!

In 2002 he was named Captain of the Argentina Team of Padel and picked up with her the world champion title. Four years later ditto but with the Spanish selection. From 2006 to 2017 he held the position of Technical Director within the Spanish Federation of Padel with the objective of training (young) players, competitions and the development of sport in the country.

Coach of several pairs on the WPT circuit, he was able to take under his control the greatest, like the ex number 1, Juan Martin Diaz, But also Paquito Navarro or even Juan lebron.

As much to tell you that Martin is far from being an unknown on the international scene of padel.

On his page LinkedIn, the Argentinian treats us with his anecdotes and today we wanted to offer you his reflection on a topical subject: the purchase.

This year again we were not spared by the Covid-19 virus. Many people suffered the consequences during the holiday season. Indeed, many people have not been able to see their families as usual during this Christmas period.

You must be wondering what the Covid, Noel and the padel do they come to do in this article? We are getting there.

In his open letter, the Argentinian technician looks back over periods of his life around the world for his various trips during competitions.

A nomadic way of life

"In 2022 I had the chance and the honor to be the Captain of the Argentine selection for men for the World Cup in Mexico. Before the final I asked the organizers of the competition if it was possible to respect a minute of silence to honor the memory of Javier Siro, one of the best players Argentina has given us.

At one point in his career, he starred in a report in which he said a phrase that stuck in my memory: ”I don't want a padel Gypsy".
If his words may seem xenophobic at first glance, in this case, Javier Siro meant by that that he did not want the padel becomes a “Nomad” sport, meaning that players are forced to travel all the time.

It should be remembered that at this time the padel Argentinian was in turmoil and we were traveling a lot. Almost 20 years later his wish has unfortunately not been granted. ”

A life dedicated to padel

“My job has taken me to travel all over the world. At the time we said that the precursors were all those people who were opening new roads.

If we transfer this to padel, these precursors would be all those who agreed to abandon their loved ones and their homes to venture to new destinations. Most are coaches, trainers, trainers, teachers.

On the contrary, the players come and go. They play and he leaves. While the “precursor” technician decides to stay when the light goes out.

This network of people who at the beginning did not know each other are in a way those who in silence helped to build the foundations of what our sport is today.

Originally the majority were Argentines or Spaniards, but in recent years other colleagues have auditioned from other countries and who have also had to move to go to train far from home. IThey must meet an increasingly growing global demand and thus meet the expectations of aficionados who appear in the 4 corners of the world

But what prompts these people to do this? The first aspect that would come to mind would be economic reason.

Sure. But that's not all.

Indeed for many of them the real reason is to accept new challenges, to leave their mark and to discover new places. Unfortunately, this is not for everyone, but those who did have traveled the world leaving their traces in their wake.

They infected more than one with the padel.

If you also know what it is to spend Christmas by Skype, to feel guilty about not being there when your loved ones needed you or vice versa, to no longer know if you are from here or elsewhere, to very often going out of your comfort zone or being imbued with doubts so yes you too can consider yourself as one of these precursors.

With all due respect for the poetry: Padelero there is no path, the path is made by walking. At least for me, a pioneer, I thank you because with this desire and passion you have made this sport something great ”.
