Only at  17 years ,  Martina Calvo  is establishing itself as  one of the revelations of the women's circuit The player from Pamplona continues to impress with her maturity and level of play, to the point of receiving praise from several major figures in world padel.

After  Gemma Triay , world number 1, and  Sanyo Gutiérrez who had described her as  "Biggest surprise of 2025" She is now his partner  Marta Ortega  who spoke very highly of him during an interview given to Padel Review.

 "She has everything it takes to become number 1." 

For Marta Ortega, Martina Calvo's potential is undeniable. The Madrid player already has very high hopes for her young teammate.

"I think she has all the factors to become number 1. And what's even more impressive is that she started very early."

Ortega also emphasizes the maturity of the young Spaniard, a rather rare trait at that age.

"She's a very mature and organized girl. She's always very focused and has very clear ideas."

A strong compliment coming from a player who is well aware of the pressure of the very highest level.

 A mentor/student relationship 

In this new pair,  Marta Ortega naturally assumes the role of experienced player A position she knows well, having become in  In 2019, she became the youngest world number 1 in padel history at just 22 years old. .

Today, she wants to pass on this experience to her partner.

"We discussed how I could bring that experience to him."

She draws inspiration in particular from the players who helped her at the beginning of her career.

"I greatly admire what Marta Marrero did with me back then. And Carolina Navarro also helped me a lot at the World Cup."

The goal is simple: to support Calvo while allowing her to express herself.

"I try to bring her peace and quiet, but she manages very well on her own."

 An immediate connection on the track 

Beyond the mentor/student relationship, the sporting camaraderie between the two players seems evident.

Marta Ortega even mentions a  immediate connection  when they started training together.

"The connection was instantaneous. When we started playing together, it felt like we'd been playing together for a long time."

The two players share the same vision of the game.

"We want to play at the same pace and we both tend to move forward."

 A project that revives Ortega 

This new partnership also seems to be giving the Madrid team renewed momentum.

"I'm also learning a lot from her. We met at a very good time: I needed a fresh start, someone with a lot of drive."

For Ortega, accompanying Martina Calvo is not a heavy responsibility.

"It's not a responsibility to accompany him, quite the opposite. I'm enjoying this experience immensely."
