At the microphone Padel Magazine, Maxime Joris returns in particular to his recent defeat at FIP Gold Valladolid, his mental preparation, and of course his selection for the French team!

A disappointing FIP Gold Valladolid

In all honesty, I think the conditions didn't really favor us. The playing conditions were very fast. We had played outdoors the week before and this time we were semi-covered. We have failed to adapt properly to these new conditions.

Tactically, we could have made adjustments that would have made things easier for us, but we failed to implement them. This is what we lacked. The Spanish players played very well, but it was really our inability to adapt and adjust our strategy that was our main weakness.

Le padel, a mental sport

I am followed throughout the year by my mental trainer, Kelly Sotière. Together we work on match preparation, whether before or after matches, as well as the challenges I may encounter, whether off or on the field. This mental monitoring is essential for me.

Depending on the challenges or feelings I may have, we organize specific sessions. These sessions are adapted to the upcoming ordeal or to the apprehension that I may feel. We do in-depth work, which helps me a lot. Since working with Kelly, I have felt real progress. His support allowed me to take a significant step forward in managing the mental aspect of the competition.

An unexpected selection

In all honesty, I didn't expect it. I knew I was in the shortlist and that I potentially had my place, but being selected for the European Championships was beyond my expectations. It was a real surprise, with a lot of emotion. I heard the news in the presence of my family, which made the moment even more special.

I hadn't necessarily prepared myself to join the French team so early, but I am determined to respond and represent France in the best possible way during the European Championships.

This was really the main objective of my journey in the padel. I knew that if my international level was there, it could lead to potential selection. I also know that good relationships within the group are very important. I am lucky to get along well with everyone on the team and to have great friendships. I'm really happy with this selection and the opportunity offered to me.

The strong points of the Vanbauce / Joris duo

We were talking about it recently, and I think our main strength is our passion and our aggressiveness on the pitch. We have a tendency to push forward and put constant pressure on our opponents, grabbing them by the throat from the start. This aggressiveness allows us to not give them a break.

Our combativeness is also a major asset. We fight for every point and have an offensive-oriented game. Today, we form a very solid team, with excellent cohesion. I am really satisfied with our association and the level of play that we reach together. I am also very happy that we managed to achieve our common goal of joining the French team!
