With the World Padel Championships in Qatar just a few months away, Rodri Ovide , coach of the Argentine national team alongside Gaby Reca has begun to unveil his thinking. In an interview given to desdedentrodelpadelThe Argentinian coach discussed the composition of his group, but also the Spanish pair whom he would have especially not wanted to see again in Doha.
"I would erase Coello and Coki Nieto"
As reigning world champions, Argentina will arrive in Doha with the ambition of retaining their crown. One opponent naturally stands out in their path: spain , unsuccessful finalist in 2024.
When asked which Spanish pair he would prefer not to see fielded, Rodri Ovide did not hesitate for a second:
"I would erase Arturo Coello and Coki Nieto, they played an insane tournament."
A direct reference to the 2024 World Cup final. They lined up together in the first match, Arturo Coello et Coki Nieto had largely dominated Martín Di Nenno et Franco Stupaczuk (6/1 6/2), giving Spain the first point.
Argentina, however, had turned the game around thanks to victories by Federico Chingotto / Agustín Tapia And then Tino Libaak / Leo Augsburger , to clinch another world title.
A list that already enjoys consensus
Beyond this anecdote, Rodri Ovide also spoke about the preparation of the Argentine national team.
The technician explains that he worked with Gaby Reca on different possible configurations before arriving at the same conclusion.
"We explored several possibilities and, when we drew up our list of twelve players, we arrived at exactly the same names."
A sign of the exceptional depth that Argentina currently possesses.
Four places almost guaranteed
Barring any surprises or injuries, four players already seem guaranteed to participate in the World Cup: Agustín Tapia , Federico Chingotto , Franco Stupaczuk et Leo Augsburg .
The final four players to complete the men's delegation now need to be determined. Several candidates are in contention, including Martín Di Nenno , Juan Tello , Tino Libaak , Maxi Maple , Alex Chozas , Sanyo Gutiérrez , Tolito Aguirre or, Gonza Alfonso .
The puzzle is far from over for the Argentinian staff, but one thing is certain: a few months before the Doha meeting, the battle to integrate the twelve chosen promises to be one of the most challenging in recent years.
