Le Newgiza Premier Padel P2 is about to experience a unprecedented and symbolic women's final, pitting two generations against each other: Alejandra Salazar and Martina Calvo (TS6) against World No. 2 Ariana Sanchez and Paula Josemaría.
A historic final for Salazar and Calvo
Their journey has already become part of history. With 22 years and 6 months apart, Alejandra Salazar (39 years old) et Martina Calvo (17 years old) become the pair with the greatest age difference never before seen in a tournament final Premier Padel.
If they were to become established, they would become the pair with the greatest age difference to win a women's title in the history of professional padel. Better yet: Martina Calvo would become, at 17 years and 3 months, the youngest champion of the circuit's history, while Salazar would become the oldest.
The Spanish women achieved a perfect run so far, without losing a single set of the week, displaying an astonishing complementarity between Calvo's passion and Salazar's legendary calm.
Sanchez and Josemaría want to reaffirm their status
Opposite, Ariana Sanchez and Paula Josemaria play their 30rd final on the circuit Premier Padelwith the objective of a 17th title and 43rd career trophy together. Finalists in Milan, they only conceded one set this week, against Araújo / Ustero in the semifinals.
Absent from Newgiza in 2024, the world number 2s are to a victory and a first coronation in EgyptA success would also allow them to return to the leaders Triay / Brea in the FIP Race rankings, and revive the race for the world throneA defeat, on the other hand, would seriously complicate their mission to regain the number 1 spot.
A match to watch very closely: women's padel could well to live a page of history this Saturday in Newgiza.
I discovered padel directly during a tournament, and frankly, I didn't really like it at first. But the second time, it was love at first sight, and since then, I haven't missed a single match. I'm even ready to stay up until 3am to watch a final of Premier Padel !
