Carla Touly, currently French number 3, will begin a new stage in his career by joining the brand HEAD from 2025. Passing through Madrid for a VIP event, she looks back on this transition and the challenges that await her on the international circuit.
A change of direction and a new adventure
« I can't wait for the adventure to begin. It has already started, but I am especially looking forward to the tournaments starting again so I can show you my new rackets and my new defenses.
Already well integrated into her new environment, Carla displays her enthusiasm for the opportunities that present themselves to her.
A future with Jessica Ginier?
The association between Carla Touly and Jessica Ginier raises a lot of questions. While the latter has said she wants to play with Carla as soon as possible, changes in regulations complicate the situation.
« The problem is, the rules have changed. The circuit Premier Padel changed its points scale and reduced the number of pairs accepted in tournaments. Before this reform, I could not compete with Jess because of our ranking. So, I had planned to play first Padel with Ana Dominguez who has a similar ranking to me, and we were very excluded from the tables."
With four pairs less per tournament, the choice of partners becomes strategic. Carla should thus play more of FIP tournaments in order to accumulate points and hope to enter the main draws of major tournaments.
A controversial points system
The new regulations are not unanimous among players. Many see it as a flashback, and denounce an unstable system even if Carla did not know the era of World Padel Tour.
« I'm a little disappointed, because I was hoping to be able to play all the Premier Padel This year. I had accumulated enough points, but with reduced tables, I no longer enter. It's frustrating, but you have to adapt."
Playing far to collect points?
Some players choose to travel far to win points more easily. An effective but energy-consuming strategy.
« The points system is a real strategy. We have to wait for the tournament entry lists to see where we are ranked best. I have already experienced going far to take points. It is effective, but over a full season, it is physically untenable.
Carla insists on the importance of a balance between competition and recovery :
« If we just chase points, we end up lacking the level of play. You therefore have to find a happy medium and plan your season well.”
Goals for the upcoming season
While waiting to be able to find Jessica Ginier on the circuit, Carla will continue its rise with Ana Dominguez and will seek to accumulate enough points to enter the big tables.
« The goal is to progress and, ultimately, play in the biggest tournaments. Whether with Jess or with Ana, the objective remains the same: to evolve and reach a sufficient level to establish oneself on the international circuit.
