Olivier Guy de Chamisso, young player from 2008, returns to the P1000 from Breizh and tells us about his journey, the positive and negative sides of padel, as well as its areas for improvement.

Du padel, beginnings at the age of 5

I discovered the padel at the age of 5, during my vacation in Spain, because my mother is from the south of the country. Then, I started playing regularly in France from the age of 10 and participating in tournaments from the age of 12. Before that, I was a tennis player. I started tennis at the age of 3 and played until last year, reaching a ranking of 15/1.

My short-term goal padel, is to enter the top 40 within a year. In the longer term, I aim to become professional and remain among the best players on the circuit.

The positive and negative sides of padel

The positive sides of padel, is that you have fun much more easily than in tennis. It's a very friendly sport, especially because four people play, which adds a social and fun dimension. It’s also accessible to all skill levels.

As for the negative sides, honestly, I don't see many. Perhaps the main disadvantage would be that the padel is not yet developed enough, particularly in terms of available land and infrastructure, which sometimes limits access and regular practice of sport.

Strengths and areas for improvement

I think my strong points are defense and parallel forehand volleys. I am very comfortable in these aspects of the game, it often allows me to take the advantage in matches. On the other hand, there are always areas for improvement. For me, it's the backhand volley and the smash. I regularly work on these aspects to strengthen my game and become a more complete player.

A look back at the Breizh P1000

It was a great performance for my partner and me. Against Rouanet and Forcin, what we lacked, I would say that these were the key moments of the match where we made mistakes that they did not make. It cost us our service several times.
