Antonio Ocete, Adidas player and teacher Padel which tells us about a key element of padel and that we are necessarily looking for as an amateur of this sport: the acceleration of the ball.

"90% hits are controlled moves"

One of the most important things in  padel  and that I often stress to my students, it is to take into account the power of the shots that we put in the ball.

Indeed, the most frequent blows in the padel professional are control shots where precision and direction of the ball are paramount. Obviously, among professionals, one can have the impression that things are going very quickly. Yet from their point of view, they make a lot more balls " waiting and constructionThanks to controlled blows.

Less frequently, but equally important and even decisive shots, the strong acceleration of the ball must allow to take advantage thanks to the speed and the effect of surprise.

"Control then acceleration"

Good decision-making is therefore vital. Control then acceleration of the ball, the two pillars of the padel. This is the strategy for us to win the point.

The acceleration of the ball is supposed to be a classic shot but with more power in the ball.

Problem: With a higher speed our body tends to lose control and generate forces that will cause the ball not to follow exactly the direction we intended in our head.

This is why it is very important to be active at all times, especially when you are in a waiting position (ie when you do not touch the ball for a certain number of rallies and even points sometimes).

This state of alert makes it possible to react quickly and to prepare us to execute the acceleration blow.

When we hit at low speed, we have greater control of our movement without the need to accompany the shot with the body because the movement is much more controlled.

But when we want to accelerate, it is vital that our body is perfectly maintained, well placed. We therefore need to be flexed with a well balanced position and to optimize speed with the hand.

The difficulty is to also have a racket properly inclined to allow the ball to take the desired direction.

Everything depends on the situation

Accelerating a ball also depends on the situation of the players on the field and his own situation or if you are in a defensive or offensive position near the net.

The speed of the opponent's ball is an element to consider as well.

We will try in a future article to explain how to adapt to these situations and how to accelerate a ball in difficult conditions.
