It is said that women's padel sometimes has a little trouble taking off in France, but great initiatives like the Open Big Padel Jet Academy 2022 shows the potential is there.

Remember that two years ago, the P1000 in Denain hosted 20 teams for an exclusively female tournament. To arrive at this figure, the club had to consult upstream with the players to find a date. the Lyon TCM with Stephan Rodriguez at the controls also did a huge amount of work for women's padel in 2018.

The P1000 by Big Padel Jet Academy, which will be held on February 12 and 13 in Mérignac, will welcome 32 pairs! The proof that the competition interests more and more the ladies!

For Jean Thomas Peyrou, tournament director, it's a real success: "I think it's great. A few months ago, we had a lot of discussions about how we were having trouble filling the women's tournaments. This is proof that women's padel is growing enormously. With 32 teams, there will be qualifying phases on Friday and the final draw will be played on Saturday and Sunday."

“Promoting women’s padel”

As we said above, women's padel remains largely in the shadow of men's padel and this is even more true in terms of competitions. "A tournament exclusively for women is very rare in current padel. Often, the women's P1000s are juxtaposed with men's P1000s and they take a back seat. We want to prove this weekend that it is possible to organize a women's tournament with visibility. It's a very good thing that they are highlighted during a weekend. They have to be the stars of the event. in order to promote women's padel." emphasizes Jean-Thomas

During this edition, we will find several players who have represented the French team during the last campaigns: Mai Vo, Charlotte Soubrié, Elodie Invernon, Lucile Pothier, Wendy Barsotti, Amelie Detriviere Fiona Ligi, Marianne Vandaele…

A caring organization

This tournament will have as main sponsor the Big Padel Jet Academy. The organization should be similar to that of the P1000 men which took place last December. For Jean Thomas Peyrou, "the idea is to put the players of the French elite in the best conditions". Thus, the players will be able to benefit from a physio throughout the duration of the event. They will also have a dedicated space for their warm-up. There will be a person who will completely wash the windows on Saturday morning and Sunday morning on all grounds in order to optimize playing conditions.

From the round of 2, the matches will be played in 3 winning sets with 11rd set in classic format, without tie-break. From the quarter-finals, the players will even have the right to change balls at 9 games and then every XNUMX games.

And finally the most famous geek, Adrien Maigret, who joined the Big Padel Jet Academy, who will represent the Bordeaux club at the French team padel championships, will be in charge of the live broadcast at the Big Padel. Once is not custom ! RDV on Twitch and on Youtube to follow the live which will start on Saturday at 13:30 p.m.

After being rocked by tennis for almost 15 years, I became an absolute fan of its cousin, padel. For almost a year now, it is with another racket that I have been chasing the little yellow ball but with just as much passion! Based in Lyon, I intend to make you more aware of padel in the region and at the national level.
