Welcome to the closed circle of players padel. You have invested in a pala, nice shoes, but what about overgrip ? We tell you everything.

The overgrip is this strip of absorbent fabric that is placed on the handle of the pala. It has several uses that you may not know yet.

Protect your pala

When you buy a new pala, it has a basic grip that allows you to grip it very quickly. This original grip can be removed and replaced by another, sold in all stores “padel”. Putting an overgrip on this original grip protects it from the passage of time, perspiration and therefore from its premature degradation.

Protect your elbow

When you put a new overgrip on the handle of your pala, it sticks (necessarily) more than the previous one, and you are less likely to see your pala pass to the other side of the net after a spike (without forgetting that you must pass the wrist strap). Changing the overgrip regularly ensures good grip which will relieve your wrist and your elbow because it will add weight towards the handle and absorb some of the vibrations.

Protect your elbow (bis)

Too thin or too thick a handle can cause elbow tendonitis or tennis elbow. Using one or more overgrips allows this adjustment of the size of the handle for great comfort when entering the track. Some players use multiple overgrips, up to 10 units for big-handed players.

Absorb perspiration

This is also what overgrips are made for. You can use chalk, resin or whatever to avoid changing the overgrip too often, nothing to do, we can't fight against a new overgrip. Change it frequently and air dry your sleeve when you get home. Professional players start each match with a new overgrip, sometimes even changing it several times per match. Even if you don't sweat or have dry hands very often, you should still change this overgrip from time to time for playing comfort.

Which type to use?

There are of course all kinds. They are available in color or white, perforated or not, thin or thicker. If you want to consult the overgrips market, you will quickly see the “very” large number of existing products at all prices, from a few euro cents for the most basic to several euros for the most sophisticated and efficient.

Our tip: experiment several times to find the overgrip that best fits your hand and your game, then move on to the next step, drum buying for regular players.
