This weekend, the club of Pyramides" hosts: a men's P1000, an event that has the particularity of mixing players from the French top 20 with lower-ranked partners. A tournament that bridges the gap between the very highest level and those lower in the rankings.

Unbalanced… but ambitious pairs

Among the most unexpected tandems, we find Manuel Vives (9th French player), who lines up alongside Edwin Menager, 196th in the ranking. An atypical association, like that of Maxime Moreau (n°5) who will team up with Johan Seknadje (267th). Same contrast for Nicolas Rouanet (18th), associated with Benjamin Akoun, ranked above 900th place.

Another unique duo: Jerome Inzerillo (15th French) is involved with Laurent Miquelard, a former professional tennis player who participated in the US Open in 1994, while the well-known Spaniard Andres Britos will be on the dance floor with Richard Orlinski, the great French sculptor and musician. These so-called "hybrid" pairs allow intermediate-level players to experience a high-level game and test their skills against the best French pairs.

A common practice

This phenomenon of hybrid pairs has become a practice increasingly common in French tournaments, and not only in the amateur categories. We see it for example this week with Cyril Hanouna, which evolves to P1000 of Padel Sand alongsideAitor Garcia, a well-known Spanish player on the circuit.

This kind of association, between a lower-ranked player and another much higher-ranked one, is not isolated. Even in big P1000 or even P1500 tournaments, these surprising duos are multiplying.

Far from being an anomaly, These pairs often offer a great opportunity for the lower ranked player: not only does it allow him tosometimes go directly to the final table, without going through the qualifications, but it is also a real progression lever. A bit like playing with his coach, this allows you to raise your level of play, gain in rhythm, tactical reading and management of key moments

Favorites to watch out for

As for the favorites, the No. 1 seed is Yanis Muesser and Olivier Guy de Chamisso, a solid duo. At No. 2, we find Adrien Maigret and Thomas Mitjana.

Benjamin Dupouy

I discovered padel directly during a tournament, and frankly, I didn't really like it at first. But the second time, it was love at first sight, and since then, I haven't missed a single match. I'm even ready to stay up until 3am to watch a final of Premier Padel !
