Adrien Maigret and Jérémy Scatena won the P1000 which took place last weekend in Lyon, at Esprit Padel, beating Authier/Lopes in the final.

Adrien Maigret: “Confronting the best”

Like in Nîmes last August, Adrien Maigret and Jérémy Scatena dominate Justin Lopes and François Authier after a very big match: 6/2 6/7 7/6. A victory at the end of the suspense in this clash between players of the France group.

In this weekend which offered two P1000, one in Limoges and the other in Lyon, Maigret and Scatena had chosen to go where the level of play seemed to them the highest, as explained Adrien :

"We decided to go to Lyon because it was the toughest tournament in terms of level. We wanted to confront the best to put things in place, especially at the tactical level.

On the pitch there were ups and downs but we had a very good tournament overall. In the quarter-finals we beat Gourre/Valsot after being down 4/1 at the start. I made too many mistakes at the start of the match and then we found our best level of play to win the 6/4 set. We finally win 7/6 in a balanced second set during which we still had a few more chances, I think.

In the semi-final a bit the same kind of match against Le Panse / Trancart. We played well, we won with the same score. They played very well, they arrived with confidence after beating Forcin/Inzerillo.

And in the final we were leading 6/2 3/1 break playing very very well, we didn't miss anything. There was a little floating game, I made a few silly mistakes, we got unbroken then they ignited. The match becomes very balanced, in the second they make a very good tie-break. They had a lot of success in the match but in the end we won hard, 7/6 in the third. The objective was to fight, not to give up, so I'm satisfied. We haven't yet succeeded in putting everything in place as we would like, but over a few periods we were able to have a very, very satisfactory level of play. So very happy with this first tournament overall.”

A good level of play for one of the first tournaments of the year

For his partner Jérémy Scatena, this victory is proof that he and his partner have great mental resources: “I want to remember the change of side of 4/3 break against us in the 3rd set when I stick against Adri on the bench to take him by the shoulders when I was personally in the hard, that did good. We managed the weak times well, even very weak times sometimes during the weekend, especially as a team.”

On the side of their adversaries, Francois Authier, necessarily a little disappointed, will retain the good feelings on the track: “In the final, we start with Justin on the left and me on the right and we get into the game very badly and our opponents take us by the throat very quickly 6/2. Then I go back to the left and we put a little more legs playing much better and taking a little more risk: 7/6 for us.
The third set we play a little better by leading 4/3 break and 40/30 on our service but we do not conclude this game that allows our opponents to come back mentally and to the score. 6/2 6/7 7/6 for them: we will remember the very good feelings for this recovery.
