The Ancises Padel Club, like many outdoor clubs in France, wanted to open its doors on November 28, but not everything went as planned...

Ready to reopen November 28

Following the announcements of the president of the French Tennis Federation and the Ministry of Sports authorizing the resumption of padel outdoors and semi-covered, the Club of Padel des Ancises, in Allier (03), has decided to reopen its doors on Saturday, November 28. Details that obviously only access to the slopes was authorized and that the club house as well as the snack bar had remained closed.

Persuaded to be in his rightfulness and eager to want to communicate as well as possible on the recovery, Cyprien Michel, the manager of the club, decides toannounce the reopening on social networks.

An unusual visit

Ready to welcome padel players again, he is quite surprised when 3 gendarmes on duty (and without racket), arrive at the club, telling him that they have received calls regarding the reopening of his club and assuring him that he was not allowed to open ...

“I explained to them the origin of my reopening, the fact that our grounds are semi-covered, that the President of the FFT and the Ministry of Sport had authorized it… They tell me that they are based only on prefectural decisions. I then decided to remain closed, while waiting for a prefectural agreement, so as not to risk an administrative closure which would put the club in a bad position ...”Cyprien tells us.

A misunderstanding of the prefecture?

The story does not end there, since the prefecture refuses to open it, justifying that its club is an ERP of type X (interior), which is not completely false if we take the club as a whole, but the padel courts themselves are fine semi-covered.

Revolted, Mr. Michel does not stick to this surprising response to say the least and tries by all means to change the Prefect's mind. But despite attempts at dialogue on the part of people from the ICC, and even a Member of Parliament, the prefecture sticks to its positions.

"I even received the call from the major of the gendarmerie asking me the identity of the gendarmes and telling me that he was going to send an email to the prefect in my direction asking for the reopening, but I have no news for the moment…To date I think that I am the only closed semi indoor club in France thanks to intelligent people who have found it useful to take their phones… I would nevertheless like to thank the various authorities for their listening as well as their responsiveness. ”, concludes Cyprien.

Can the padel community or the FFT do something for the Padel Club des Ancises? The future will tell…
