At 36 years, Paquito Navarro begins a new season on the professional circuit, this time alongside the Brazilian Lucas Bergamini. In an interview with Diario Sport, the Sevillian player talks about his state of mind, his new project, and his ambitions for 2025.
A demanding pre-season to find your best version
Paquito says that this pre-season has been particularly intense, but he is approaching it with great enthusiasm. “I am very tired, but this new association with Lucas Bergamini has given me new energy. It is a radical change compared to what I have played in recent years. I have to become more aggressive again and find my most explosive version.” As he embarks on this new adventure, Navarro is aware of the physical and offensive challenges that this partnership entails, but he is ready to take on the challenge.
A duo based on complementarity
With Bergamini, Paquito hopes to form a more stable and compact pair. He describes his new teammate as a classic right-wing player, reliable and consistent, who likes to prepare points and defend. “Lucas is a very classic right-wing player, like Chingotto or Di Nenno, and these profiles have always suited me well. I know that the offensive responsibility will fall more on me, but I accept this role. Together, we will form a great pair capable of competing.”
Paquito also highlights Bergamini's human qualities, whom he considers a quiet worker but relentless, having earned his place among the best.
A thoughtful choice after a busy 2024
Navarro spent a 2024 season marked by partner changes, playing with Sanyo Gutiérrez, Juan Lebrón, and paul cardona. Although satisfied with some results, he believes that these alliances lacked continuity. “With Pablo, we were a dangerous pair, but we never really found our rhythm. I wanted a more structured style of play, even if it requires more effort. That's why I decided to call Lucas after the Barcelona finals.”
An ambitious goal for 2025
Paquito clearly shows his ambitions for this season. He hopes to improve his ranking with Bergamini and, ideally, integrate the world top 4 pairs. “I am very ambitious. I would like us to progress in the ranking, and why not reach the top 4. But even a progression compared to our current position would already be a satisfaction.”

I discovered padel directly during a tournament, and frankly, I didn't really like it at first. But the second time, it was love at first sight, and since then, I haven't missed a single match. I'm even ready to stay up until 3am to watch a final of Premier Padel !
