For their entry into the running  Paris Major , young French people  Yoan Boronad  (220) et  Timeo Fonteny  (197), invited by wild card, faced the Spanish pair  Ignacio Vilarino (70)  et  Salva Oria (86) . Beaten  6 / 2 6 / 4 , they left the tournament in the first round, but in an incredible atmosphere that made court 7 at Roland-Garros vibrate.

A complicated first set

From the start, the Spanish set the pace. Stronger in the rally, they quickly found the gap and broke. Boronad and Fonteny struggled to establish their game and conceded the first set.  6/2 .

The tricolor awakening

In the second set, the French showed a completely different face.  Boronad delights with his vibora , which puts Oria in great difficulty, while Fonteny fights back on every point. Carried by a  public on fire , the Tricolores encourage each other, fight, and compete with their opponents.  4/4 , everything remains possible in an electric atmosphere, where each exchange is tense.

Money time for the Spanish

But at this key moment, Vilarino and Oria showed their experience. They grabbed a decisive break, then concluded with a game that was still tight, despite the pressure from the crowd and the palpable tension on the court. With a final ball sent full body by Vilarino to Fonteny, the game ended:  6/2 6/4 for the Spanish .

An encouraging defeat

Despite the disappointment, the French delivered a fine performance and created a memorable atmosphere on the court. Boronad, overcome by the support from the stands, and Fonteny, combative from start to finish, lived up to their wild card. They concluded a  black day for the Tricolores , where no Frenchman managed to win.

Benjamin Dupouy

I discovered padel directly during a tournament, and frankly, I didn't really like it at first. But the second time, it was love at first sight, and since then, I haven't missed a single match. I'm even ready to stay up until 3am to watch a final of Premier Padel !
