By the end of the season, Paula Josemaria et Ariana Sanchez will become the greatest champions in the history of padel, exceeding Mapi et Majo Alayeto. By winning the title at Malaga P1, the Queens of the circuit equaled the twins' record, long perceived as elusive.
Unless there is a huge earthquake, Paula Josemaria et Ari Sanchez should soon surpass this record and sit alone in first place on the podium. And the least we can say: what the world number 1s have accomplished in recent years commands respect.
The disappointment of 2022
For a long time, they were fighting for first place against the pair Gemma Triay / Alejandra Salazar. We remember in particular Ari Sanchez's tears, after losing first place at the Barcelona Master 2022 against Triay / Salazar in the final.
However, despite the ups and downs, Ariana Sanchez and Paula Josemaria always managed to raise their heads and give the best of themselves. After this massive blow in Barcelona, in December 2022, the current world number 1s have returned stronger than ever.
2023, the year of renewal
The year 2023 was the year of revelation and renewal for Paula Josemaria and Ariana Sanchez who established themselves as the true queens of the circuit. They have, in addition to that, lost their main rivals, during the surprise separation of Gemma Triay and Alejandra Salazar.
In total, they won 14 titles that year: 13 on the World Padel Tour and 1 on Premier Padel. An incredible performance which allowed them to be assured of finishing world number 1 in October, during the WPT Amsterdam Open.
2024, confirmation?
In 2024, they are already at 5 titles won and the year is far from over. Therefore, Magic ari and Dynamite should surpass the Alayeto twins' record by the end of the month. Indeed, during the Finland P2, the world numbers 1 will be more favorites than ever for this tournament. The absence of Triay / Fernandez and the state of form of Bea Gonzalez will obviously weigh in the balance.
In three years, Paula Josemaria and Ari Sanchez have already done as well as the Alayeto twins in 10 years. Of course, the padel is no longer the same. In 2013, there were only 7 women's tournaments... 9 in 2014 toy. In 2024, there will normally be 25!
However, this in no way takes away from the incredible story of Paula Josemaria and Ariana Sanchez, who have never worn their title of Queens of the circuit so well.
It was his brother who one day told him to accompany him on a track. padel, since then, Gwenaëlle has never left the court. Except when it comes to going to watch the broadcast of Padel Magazine, World Padel Tour… or Premier Padel…or the French Championships. In short, she is a fan of this sport.
