Every summer, the coast of Asturias in Spain becomes the scene of an event as unusual as it is spectacular: the  Playa de Luanco tennis tournament , played directly on the beach! Set up at low tide, with a court that disappears underwater a few hours later, this legendary tournament combines  tradition, spectacle and summer atmosphere An event that has become a cult, which symbolizes better than ever  the Spanish passion for sport, the proximity to the sea and the desire to play everywhere, all the time .

And if this very singular concept resonated surprisingly with the spirit of the  paddle  ?

Sand tennis and padel: two expressions of the same culture

At first glance, everything seems to oppose the  padel and the Playa de Luanco tournament  : one is played on a synthetic carpet surface, the other on wet sand. But on closer inspection, these two disciplines have  a common foundation: conviviality, creativity and the ability to reinvent the game .

As in Luanco,  padel breaks the codes  : two-player game, rebounds against the windows, proximity to the public. Both share this idea of a  accessible sport-spectacle , where experience counts as much as performance. This famous Luanco tournament remains an exhibition offering no ATP points.

And why not a padel on sand?

Le  Luanco tournament  is often summed up as “a meeting between friends at the beach with rackets”. Padel, too, has become  a pretext for the meeting , a social sport, embodied by outdoor tournaments, short formats and a relaxed atmosphere.

As padel is constantly evolving, the idea of a tournament  ephemeral on the beach  or  removable court by the sea  is no longer so far-fetched. Exhibitions have already taken place on rooftops, in shopping centers or in public squares. So why not a  “Luanco du padel”  with the best players in the world who would come and put on a show in a festive atmosphere?
