La green carpet on the grounds of paddle, has gradually been replaced by so-called “more modern” shades such as Blue and Black, for several reasons.
Better visibility
Colors like Blue and Black contrast more with the yellow ball than green, especially under artificial lights. This helps the players to follow the ball during quick exchanges and makes the match more enjoyable to watch for the spectators, live or on television.
Modern aesthetics and identity of padel
Green is very reminiscent of tennis with grass or even greenset / decoturf. Padel has bet its own visual identity. Blue and black bring a more modern and allow padel to distinguish itself from other racket sports.
Ease of maintenance
The dark carpets, like blue and black, are more practical, they show less dirt and are more resistant to UV rays, a major asset for the outdoor grounds. This reduces the maintenance costs and allows the grounds to retain their aesthetics for longer.
International standardization
The professional circuitsAs World Padel Tour or Premier Padel have adopted blue and sometimes black for indoor tournaments, to create a coherent visual identity and recognizable. This uniformity reinforces the Padel fame, much like blue has become the iconic image of professional matches.
I discovered padel directly during a tournament, and frankly, I didn't really like it at first. But the second time, it was love at first sight, and since then, I haven't missed a single match. I'm even ready to stay up until 3am to watch a final of Premier Padel !
