After the chaos caused by the absence of the best men's pairs at the Gijon P2, Premier Padel tries to avoid a second similar episode with the P2 of Cancun. Faced with a list of registered participants that is still very sparse, the circuit organization has decided to extend the registration deadline until this Saturday, March 1st at 23:59 p.m.. A last-ditch effort to try to attract players and save the competition.
A new maneuver after the Gijón P2
Initially, the closing date for registrations was scheduled for Friday, February 28 at 17 p.m. But, seeing that the main seeds were still not on the list, Premier Padel opted for a 24-hour reprieve in order to convince more players to register.
This change occurs just two days after the announcement of the freeze on Bonus Pool payments. Premier Padel had communicated to the players that bonuses accrued on circuit revenues would not be paid until the situation was resolved.
A male painting still deserted
As in Gijón P2, the women's tournament should not experience any disruption, the best players on the circuit are indeed present in MexicoOn the male side, however, the situation remains worrying.
At the moment, none of the big pairs on the circuit are registeredThe four provisional seeds for the tournament would be:
- Alberto Garcia / Christian Medina
- Alonso Rodriguez / Ignacio Rubini
- Simone Cremona / Jaume Romera
- Simon Vasquez / Adam Axelsson

If the situation does not change in the next few hours, Cancun could experience the same fate as Gijón, with a final table largely deprived of its stars and a competition which would lose its attractiveness.
Tolito Aguirre and Gonza Alfonso turn their backs on Cancun
Another element confirms the instability surrounding this tournament: Tolito Aguirre and Gonzalo Alfonso, who were highly anticipated, will ultimately not be there.
Freshly crowned at FIP Gold of Paredes, the two Argentines preferred to focus on their participation in Gijón P2 in order to collect as many points as possible and ensure a direct place in the main draws of major tournaments Premier Padel. A strategic choice that would allow them to rise directly into the final tables of the P1 and Majors.
A new crisis in sight?
Barring a last-minute turnaround, Cancun P2 could well be the second tournament of the season to be massively boycotted by Top 100 players.
This crisis marks a key moment for the circuit Premier Padel. Either an agreement is reached quickly between the FIP, Premier Padel and the players, or the season could be seriously disrupted by these tensions, with tournaments impacted and the credibility of the circuit called into question.
The next few hours will be decisive to know if Cancun will suffer a fate similar to that of Gijón or so Premier Padel will succeed in saving his tournament.

I discovered padel directly during a tournament, and frankly, I didn't really like it at first. But the second time, it was love at first sight, and since then, I haven't missed a single match. I'm even ready to stay up until 3am to watch a final of Premier Padel !
