They are only 20 and 18 years old, but their first outing together in their new colors has already made a strong impression. In their debut as a pair in Pretoria P1, Claudia Fernández and Martina Calvo secured their place in the quarterfinals with a controlled victory. This performance confirms the expectations placed on this new partnership, one of the most closely watched in the second half of the season.

In their opening match, the No. 4 seed quickly took control against  Julieta Bidahorria  et  Marta Caparrós Solid in all aspects of the game, Claudia Fernández and Martina Calvo quickly imposed their rhythm to take the first set  6/1 .

The complementarity of the duo was immediately apparent: Fernández's defensive consistency blended perfectly with Calvo's striking ability and creativity, leaving little space for their opponents.

The match became more balanced in the second set. More enterprising, Bidahorria and Caparrós fought their way back into the game after raising their level of play and securing a break. But the Spanish team's response was immediate.

Staying the course during key moments

The second set offered a completely different scenario. After a stint on the bench, Marta Caparrós admitted her lack of confidence, saying:  "I'm ashamed of my level of play." Encouraged by her partner and coach Martín Dantoni, she regained her aggression, allowing her team to push the favorites to their limits.

At 4-4, the Spanish-Argentine pair even earned another break point. They also managed to save two match points before finally succumbing.  7/5 .

Faced with this resistance, Fernández and Calvo never deviated from their game plan. Clear-headed in the crucial moments, they remained calm to close out their first match together in two sets.

An association that is already intriguing the circuit

Since the announcement of their union, this new couple has generated a lot of curiosity. Despite their youth, the two Spanish women display a maturity that far exceeds their years.

Both have already accumulated valuable experience alongside the best players on the circuit. Claudia Fernández, in particular, has played with  Gemma Triay while Martina Calvo shared the runway with  Martita Ortega More recently, they have also been in contact with  Sofia Araújo  in their previous sporting projects.

These experiences seem to have accelerated their progress. Their handling of periods of weakness, their patience in building points, and their tactical discipline already give the impression of a particularly solid pair.

Their next challenge, however, looks tougher as they will face each other in the quarter-finals.  Jana Montes  et  Marta Barrera , victorious over  Lorena Rufo  et  Victoria Iglesias  in two rounds ( 6 / 4 6 / 2 ).

Another new association that is off to a perfect start:  Ale Alonso  et  Marina Guinart .

The two Spanish women secured their qualification for the quarter-finals without any trouble, dominating the match.  Marta Borrero  et  Caterina Baldi  on the score of  6 / 1 6 / 2 , also confirming a very promising start to the collaboration.

The main results of the round of 16

 The main favorites lived up to expectations in these round of 16 matches.  Gemma Triay and Delfi Brea, the number 1 seeds, dominated  Giulia Dal Pozzo  et  Nuria Rodríguez Camacho  (6/3 6/3). Paula Josemaría and Bea González had to work harder to turn things around.  Marta Talaván  et  Jessica castelló  (7/6 6/2), while Marta Ortega and Sofía Araújo needed three sets to eliminate  Giorgia Marchetti  et  Lara Arruabarrena  (6/2 6/7 6/1).

On their side,  Tamara Icardo  et  Claudia jensen  took over  Julia Polo Bautista  et  Marina lobo  (6/1 6/4),  Alejandra Salazar  et  Aranza Osoro  left only six games to  Martina Fassio  et  Raquel Eugenio  (6/3 6/3), while  Marta Barrera  et  Jana Montes  secured their qualification against  Lorena Rufo  et  Victoria Iglesias  (6/4 6/2).
