Padel, an explosive and dynamic sport, sometimes risky due to the proximity of the four players, puts a strain on the eyes. Sand projections, intense light, rapid movements, balls coming from all directions: eye protection is strongly recommended.
Demetz, a French manufacturer established since 1965 and an expert in sports eyewear, meets this need. Aware that 17 million athletes wear corrective glasses, Demetz meticulously studies the visual requirements of athletes, whether amateurs or competitors.
The company develops equipment specific to each discipline, combining aesthetics and technical requirements. Each model incorporates the morphological characteristics, visual needs, and practice environment specific to each sport. With more than 200 references combining lightness and robustness, Demetz offers solutions with versatile neutral or corrective lenses.
After several intensive gaming sessions, here is my complete review of the SMASH model, specially designed for racket sports enthusiasts.
Ergonomic design and modern aesthetics
These frames stand out for their sleek, contemporary design. Designed to perfectly fit the face, they offer excellent stability, even during the most intense movements. Their lightweight yet robust frame is designed to minimize distractions and maximize focus on the game.
The SMASH style is decidedly sporty, with dynamic lines and premium finishes. Available in several colors, they adapt to all tastes and allow players to make their mark on the field.

Cutting-edge technology: G850 material
The main component of SMASH goggles, G850, is an innovative eco-friendly plastic derived from the castor bean plant grown in France. This sustainable and environmentally friendly material combines performance and environmental responsibility, while ensuring exceptional comfort and safety. Combined with rubber, this hybrid composite offers several key benefits:
- Light : The glasses weigh minimally, reducing fatigue during long gaming sessions.
- Impact resistance : The G850 is incredibly durable, able to withstand the impacts and rigorous conditions of padel.
- Flexibility : The frame adapts perfectly to the shape of the face, guaranteeing optimal support without excessive pressure.
- Comfort : Hypoallergenic and soft to the touch, the G850 material ensures a comfortable fit, even during hours of use.
Performance and protection: the on-court experience
The true test of sports equipment is on the field, and the Demetz SMASH doesn't disappoint. After several hours of intensive use, these goggles have proven their effectiveness.
The emphasis on comfort is immediately noticeable. The soft nose bridge adapts to different face shapes and guarantees a perfect fit, preventing any unwanted slippage during play. The highly elastic, adjustable headband, with its padded inserts at the ears, ensures a secure and comfortable fit without creating pressure points.
The first notable feature is the complete lack of discomfort. Unlike many sports glasses that constantly remind you of their presence through excessive pressure or unwanted reflections, SMASH glasses are literally invisible. This discretion is crucial in a sport as dynamic as padel, where concentration must remain entirely focused on the ball and the opponent's movements.
The panoramic field of vision is particularly appreciated. During fast-paced rallies where the ball can come from any angle, the clear view provided by the clear polycarbonate lenses allows for excellent peripheral perception. There are no blind spots, which significantly contributes to the anticipation of opponents' shots and overall responsiveness on the court.
Faced with extreme conditions, these glasses are a significant asset. During a particularly intense session under the Marseille autumn sun, they perfectly resisted the heavy perspiration without the slightest slippage. Similarly, during a match played in windy weather on an outdoor court, they effectively protected my eyes from flying sand and dust, thus avoiding eye irritation that can compromise the smooth running of a point, or even a match!
Sunglasses: a guide to protection
Sunglasses filter out ultraviolet (UV) rays, which are harmful to the retina, while reducing glare. Here are the 5 protection categories:
- Cat. 0 : Aesthetic use only, no UV protection
- Cat. 1 : Filters 90% UV, 20-60% visible light (low light)
- Cat. 2 : Filters >95% UV, 60-80% visible light (medium brightness)
- Cat. 3 : Filters >98% UV, 80-90% visible light (high brightness)
- Cat. 4 : Filters >99% UV, 90-95% visible light (exceptional brightness, unsuitable for driving)
Please note that they are equipped with category 0 lenses, which do not protect against glare or UV rays.
They are ideal for situations where light is low or neutral, while still providing faithful and uncompromising rendering.

High-performance glasses
SMASH goggle lenses are designed to provide clear, precise vision, essential for tracking the ball in a variety of playing conditions. They incorporate several advanced features:
- Anti-fog: 360° ventilation openings prevent fogging, even in extreme temperature variations.
- Scratch-resistant: The lenses are reinforced to resist scratches, ensuring extra durability.
- Adaptable: The lenses are also available in single-vision or progressive versions, with the possibility of customization to perfectly adapt to each person's individual requirements.
It is worth noting that the bevel of the frame prevents the lenses from dislodging inwards, even in the event of violent impacts.

Adapting to sight: simple and effective
SMASH glasses, although supplied with neutral lenses, can easily be adjusted to your vision. I entrusted mine to my long-time optician, who did an impeccable job, adjusting the lenses to my specific needs without any hassle.
The result is impressive: clear vision on the court while maintaining the original protection and comfort. This visual precision significantly improves anticipation of ball trajectories, even in fast and complex rallies.
The panoramic field of vision, already excellent with standard lenses, becomes even more powerful with corrective lenses, without distortion or discomfort. An undeniable advantage for any padel player requiring vision correction!
Conclusion: A justified investment for demanding players
The Demetz SMASH unisex padel goggles are positioned as a premium accessory for players looking for optimal eye protection and impeccable comfort. They are adjustable to the vision and are delivered in a very attractive, shock-proof hard case, particularly large and practical, ensuring optimal protection of the glasses during transport .
Perfect for indoor or overcast weather, these goggles are designed to protect your eyes from balls, outdoor elements (like sand or fine particles), and sweat, preventing it from dripping into your eyes during play. Eyes stay cool and protected, even during the most intense sessions.
Their design also offers maximum safety: in the event of an extreme impact, the lens remains securely held by the anti-detachment bezel, preventing any perforation of the frame and guaranteeing optimal eye protection.
Available in 2 sizes to perfectly fit all face styles, they weigh approximately 36g to be as discreet as possible.
If you're a regular padel player and concerned about eye health, the Demetz SMASH, which cost around €85, are a wise investment that will enhance your on-court experience while maximizing your performance.
In a word : recommended!
A huge thank you to Manon et Justine , the two press communications officers at Demetz France, for their valuable collaboration, as well as Frédéric Gautier , my trusted optician, for his expertise and his always impeccable support.

I tried the Smash, Maxx31 and Softness models from Demetz in store and my experience was completely different
Regarding the vertical field of vision, with its 38.8 mm height, the Smash lenses offer the widest vertical field of vision in the range, but even so, I found it insufficient compared to other models with over 40 mm.
Regarding the horizontal field of vision, I wasn't really able to appreciate it because the nose bridge, which I found firm and rigid, doesn't allow the glasses to sit flush against the face. As a result, the field of vision is reduced.
Conversely, the Maxx31 model, which features a flexible nose bridge reminiscent of a diving mask, offers significantly better stability of the glasses on the face, even though, again, these glasses remain somewhat distant from the face.
I suppose that this difference in perception depends mainly on the shape of the face, and it would be surprising, short of having them custom-made, to find glasses that could fit all face shapes…
While it is possible to select a frame from 2 or 3 sizes, it is not possible to choose the nose bridge width
Unless you change models, like between the Smash and the Maxx31, with a nose length difference of 18 vs 20 mm
Reluctantly, I had to settle for another brand which, while not offering a real sense of protection, provides me with a wider field of vision, real contact with my face, and also—and this was important to me—temples with a headband.
