The third day of the Qatar Major 2025 , played at the Khalifa Tennis & Squash Complex in Doha, had some surprises in the women's draw, while in the men's draw, the favorites generally held their own.
Goenaga and Caldera confirm their rise to power
Already noticed at the start of the year in Riyadh with a quarter-final in the inaugural tournament, Carmen Goenaga and Bea Caldera confirmed their excellent start to the season in Doha. The Spanish pair, seeded number 10, qualified brilliantly for the quarter-finals by beating Alejandra Alonso and Andrea Ustero (6/2, 6/2).
They will now have to face a major challenge by facing Gemma Triay and Delfi Brea (seeded n°2) , who had to battle through three sets to overcome Marina Guinart and Victoria Iglesias. The other women's quarter-final matches will be held at 15 p.m. local time (14 p.m. in France):
- Lucia Sainz / Patty Llaguno (5) face Bea Gonzalez / Marta Fernandez (3)
- Ariana Sanchez / Paula Josemaria (1) salary. Tamara Icardo / Claudia Jensen (9)
- Marta Ortega / Sofia Araujo (4) à Ale Salazar / Veronica Virseda (7)
No major surprises, but a few scares among the men
In the men's draw, the hierarchy was respected, as the top eight seeds all qualified for the quarterfinals. However, two teams experienced some difficulties in the round of 16:
- Javi Garrido and Martin Di Nenno (4) , who are playing their very last tournament together, had to work hard to beat Fran Guerrero and Jairo Bautista (7/6, 1/6, 6/1).
- The pair formed by Edu Alonso and Alex Arroyo (7) also went through a complicated match, finally winning against Alex Ruiz and Alex Chozas in three sets (3/6, 6/3, 6/4).
Among the highly anticipated posters, the rematch between the tournament favorites, Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia (1) , against Pablo Cardona and Leo Augsburger (8), promises to be a spectacle. An identical confrontation had already taken place recently during the round of XNUMX in Santiago.
The other men's quarter-final matches will be just as attractive:
- Gonzalez/Sanz (5) salary. Nieto/Yanguas (3) (a remake of the finale of the Premier Padel Barcelona Finals)
- Garrido/Di Nenno (4) face Navarro/Bergamini (6)
- Alonso/Arroyo (7) opposed to Chingotto/Galan (2)
