For their second round of qualifying for the Bordeaux Premier Padel P2, Timéo Fonteny and Yoan Boronad were facing a very big challenge: the second seed, Javier Martinez et Federico Mourino, two players well established in the world top 100. Despite good runs, the two young Frenchmen logically lost: 6 / 3 6 / 1.
A close first set, but relentless opponent realism
From the start of the match, Martinez and Mouriño imposed their rhythm and broke early. Fonteny and Boronad, however, showed some good things, even earning a break at 5/2 to try to revive the suspense. But the experience of the Spanish-Argentines made the difference: an immediate rebreak and the first set was won 6/3.
The statistics speak for themselves: Martinez and Mouriño earned 13 break points in the match, compared to just two for the French side. The day's favorites shone especially brightly in key moments, converting five break points, compared to just one for their opponents.
Too many mistakes to hope for better in the second
In the second set, the trend continued. Too many unforced errors (30 for the French pair compared to 16 for Martinez and Mouriño) prevented Fonteny and Boronad from establishing their game. The Spanish-Argentine duo rolled out and won 6-1 in just 27 minutes.

A logical defeat, but enriching
Facing an experienced and solid pair, the step was high for the young French. With 30 winning points but also 30 unforced errors, they alternated between the good and the bad. One thing is certain: this experience against top 100 players will serve them well for the future. The work and the progress are definitely there.

I discovered padel directly during a tournament, and frankly, I didn't really like it at first. But the second time, it was love at first sight, and since then, I haven't missed a single match. I'm even ready to stay up until 3am to watch a final of Premier Padel !
