The women's qualifications of the Madrid Premier Padel P1 The matches kicked off this Sunday, and several French players were on deck. Between promising starts and logical defeats against the favorites, here's a look back at their first day.
Laura Buteau, a courageous entry despite the fatigue
Associated with the Spanish Angela Lorenzo Martín (305th) , Laura Buteau (202th) immediately faced the most formidable pair of the qualifiers: Sofía Saiz Vallejo (47th) et Marina Lob (46th) As expected, the step was too high (defeat 6/1 6/1), but the Frenchwoman showed some good things, especially in disputed games which often went to equality.
An added bonus when you consider that Laura arrived in Madrid after a night journey from Barcelona, leaving at 2am, with only a few hours of sleep under her belt.
Carla Touly and Marta Arellano already well established
For their first tournament together, Carla Toully and the Spanish Marta Arellano Navarro managed their entry into the competition perfectly. Opposed to Paula Ferrán Díaz / Carla Serrano González , they won 6/3 6/2 seriously.
The first set served as a test run, with the pair discovering their rhythms after only a practice match the day before. But from the second set, everything fell into place: Touly showed great solidity, limiting her errors, while her partner shone with her aggression, particularly on the smash.
Tomorrow, the task will be more difficult: they will challenge the second seed in the qualifiers, Agueda Pérez Ortiz (44th) / Marta Borrero Fernández (50th) .
Léa Godallier and Esther Carnicero strong
First association also for Léa Godallier and the Spanish Esther Butcher , and first success. Opposed to Mónica Gómez Rivas / Carolina Navarro Björk , the two players had to battle it out in a high-level first set. After a perfectly controlled tie-break, they then rolled out a 7/6 6/1 victory.
A good omen before a huge clash tomorrow, against the number 1 seed in the qualifications: Sofia Saiz / Marina Lobo , the same ones who eliminated Laura Buteau.
I discovered padel directly during a tournament, and frankly, I didn't really like it at first. But the second time, it was love at first sight, and since then, I haven't missed a single match. I'm even ready to stay up until 3am to watch a final of Premier Padel !
