On the Roland-Garros center court,  Manuel Vives  et  Maxime Joris  bow 6/4 6/2 to  Flavio Abbate  et  Manuel Castaño , seeded 4th in the qualifiers. But the French showed that they belong.

A first set that could have changed

The start of the match was very solid for the French side.  Vives makes the difference , aggressive and inspired, well supported by a  Joris applied At 2/2, they have several break points, without managing to conclude. The very slow conditions, which make smashes difficult to land, seem to be working in their favor. But at 5/4, things change: Joris rushes a little with smashes, Abbate and Castaño take advantage to break at the worst possible moment for the French and pocket the set 6/4.

Buoyed by this first set, Abbate and Castaño gained confidence and tightened up their game. They broke early and dictated the long rallies. The French didn't give up, but their physical intensity dropped and they lacked realism in the important points. At 5/2, they cracked one last time: the match ended 6/2.

Positive for the future

On paper, the defeat is logical, but the Blues showed great level in the first set.  Lively, back from injury , confirms that he can very quickly return to his best level, justifying his wild card sometimes criticized by some.
Next step: the  French Championships , where we will find  Joris alongside Julien Seurin  et  Live with Dylan Guichard .
