There are days when padel, this friendly sport with the allure of double relaxation between friends, loses some of its sweetness. And sometimes he puts on the gloves.
This is what happened at Club Volea, in Costa Rica, where a match degenerated into… general fight. Yes, you read that right: not a bad faith on a let or a war cry like “¡Vamos!” too emphatic, no. We're talking about a good old-fashioned settling of scores, under the astonished eyes of the other players, the coaches, and probably a cactus or two.
From the exchange of balls to the exchange of slaps
It all started with growing tension on the court. According to witnesses, a team adopted a style of play... let's say not very academic, where every ball seemed to be aimed more at the wall than the net. Add to that a few sentences not very padelistically correct, and you have an explosive cocktail.
Result: What was supposed to be a friendly match ended seven against seven, MMA atmosphere without the octagon. All filmed, of course, because in today's world, if there is no video, it means it never existed.
“They touched a sore point…”
One of the players confided that things got heated when “we touched on sensitive issues in his personal life.” This proves, once again, that padel is not just a racket sport… It's also a sport of nerves.
Padel: the sport that can make you lose your mind
So, what can we learn from this episode? That padel, despite its air of being a fun and festive sport, can sometimes trip the circuits. It softens manners, certainly... except when it drives you crazy.
