The captain of the French women's team, Robin Haziza, looks back at the forces present before the worlds of padel which will take place from November 15 to 20, 2021. An interview where the coach answers all our questions.

You surprised by the number of new players coming to join the French team. Lucile Pothier, Fiona Ligi and Élodie Invernon. Can you explain to us the path of your thought?

You're right there are changes and I think that also means that the level is changing, that there is competition. I believe that if it is healthy, this competition is beneficial for all the girls and therefore indirectly for the France team.

My desire is to have a real French group that is not limited to selection, but to consider all those who knock on the door, who train and who perform. The France team does not belong to anyone, it must be the ultimate goal for all, a goal for which we fight and invest.

There is obviously a long-term vision while having short-term deadlines which are real objectives and for which I try to form the best possible team!

On the 3 news, we no longer present Fiona, she has been on the French circuit for a while. She sometimes missed meetings with the France team but she was able to question herself, change her game and her attitude, well accompanied by Alain Henry, her coach. Her youth also speaks for her, so it is logical that she is traveling with us.

Élodie had excellent results with Geraldine. By sequence, she reaches an incredible level of play, she has very high level shots, progresses, trains, has a very good margin of progress. I know her coach Yannick Maurel very well, we discuss the areas of work, for me it is a more than deserved selection after the disillusion she experienced at the Marbella camp.

Lucile, has very little time to padel played but shows a lot of maturity. She reads the game very well, and is also very involved. She had some great games with Wendy, she is progressing quickly, she is calm and calm on the ground, this experience will be useful to her because I believe a lot in her potential!

We remember that you explained to us that you took Wendy Barsotti to Marbella because you wanted to aim for the long term with her. She is not part of the selection for Qatar. What happened in the meantime?

“Wendy will not be in Qatar but she is part of the France Group, she was not far away and knows it! We talked a lot, it's not easy to digest but it is part of the future of the France team if it puts the ingredients to be there. She knows what I'm expecting, she's not the type to give up, as for Élodie in Marbella I am confident in her ability to react and her desire to come back even more motivated in 2022! ”

The non-selection that makes a lot of talk is that of Mélissa Martin, 118th player in the WPT standings, 3rd French player on the pro circuit.

“I talked a lot with Mélissa, it was a difficult choice given her career in selection. She had some problems which did not allow her to be in the best possible condition at key moments of the season, a season which, I will remind you in France, was relatively short.

In my opinion, she is an integral part of this France group, I am counting on her to come back fully pumped up and break everything in the months to come. ”

Portugal and Sweden will not be present for these worlds. Is there a goal for Qatar?

“No Portugal or Sweden, it necessarily changes the face of the competition. We would have liked a full World Championship with the best teams but that allows us to be seeded n ° 4 in the tournament.

Spain and Argentina are out of competition, Italy has 6 players who play the WPT, they are logically the favorites in the first 3 places. However, I do not refrain from believing it, if we go there it is to finish as high as possible!

I believe a lot in my team, we have potential and the collective sublimates the individual scores, as we saw in Marbella ...

Alix and Léa are in incredible shape, Élodie and Charlotte had a very good P2000, Amélie and Mai are still very successful in the France team and Fiona and Lucile will bring all their freshness and their desire to be as efficient as possible.

Combinations? There are many of them, in Marbella we had surprised our people a little and it had worked rather well. This time we will have less time to prepare but the competition is long, we have real life force and great adaptability.

For the Open tournament, here are the teams that will be registered:

  • Alix - Lea
  • Amélie - May
  • Charlotte - Elodie
  • Fiona - Lucile ”
