A few days ago, Argentina won The CSenior Plus world championships in Alicante against Spain (3-2), at the end of an epic encounter. Ramón Morcillo, president of the Spanish Federation of padel, answered questions from our colleagues at Padel Spain. Selected pieces.

On the final of the Senior FIP World Cup, won by Argentina:

“As you saw, it came down to small details. We must congratulate the Argentinians who played very well. What do I remember from it? The magnificent organization of the World Cup, the work of the FIP team, and the very high level of padel that we were able to observe. It's a world championship for veterans, but there were some very high-level games, both for the girls and the boys. Above all, I remember the good spirit that reigned during the tournament.”

On his feelings about the final:

“I am a person who congratulates the champion, who knows when the best has won. In this case, well done, they beat us!”

On the superiority of Spain, compared to other nations:

“Yes, we are a little cut above the rest, with Argentina. We are the leading teams, but the distances are shortening with the other countries. I was surprised by the level of several countries, including France. They won a lot of medals. There were also Sweden, Italy and the Netherlands, which are emerging more and more.”

On the progression of padel amateur in Spain:

“We saw it here, with the pairs who managed to reach the title of world champion (…). Of course, it’s a source of pride!”

On possible changes in the organization chart of the Spanish federation, as the elections approach:

“In September, there will be the European Youth Championship and at the end of October-beginning of November, the World Championship. It is time to analyze the situation, because the challenges ahead are very important. We will see what we are going to do, but we will do it to improve the level of padel Spanish."
